Job Description

**About the Role** The Uber host network team is responsible for managing the systems and components related to host networking across both on-premises and cloud environments. This includes host network observability, secure service mesh, traffic management, host network traffic authentication, and host network components for key infrastructure initiatives. As a software engineer on the Uber Host Network team, you’ll collaborate with top-tier engineers to build a reliable, secure, scalable, and modern host networking environment for Uber. **What the Candidate Will Do** 1. Design, develop, manage, and modernize Uber’s host networking stacks to enhance functionality and performance. 2. Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code. 3. Participate in code reviews and contribute to the development of engineering best practices. 4. Participate in on-call rotations to provide timely resolution of critical incidents and ensure system availability. 5. Mentor junior engineers on host networking team. 6. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, design and implement scalable, reliable, and high-performance networking solutions, through sophisticated experiments. 7. Debug and troubleshoot complex issues across multiple systems. **Basic Qualifications** 1. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science or related field. 2. 4+ years of experience in software development, with a significant focus on networking. 3. Highly efficient coding in Golang, C++ or any similar languages. 4. Solid understanding of networking protocols such as HTTP, TCP/IP, and UDP. 5. Engineering experience in hands-on software development with thoughtfulness of scale, latency and distributed architecture. 6. Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills. 7. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across different teams and effectively lead projects. **Preferred Qualifications** 1. 5+ years of full-time Software Engineering work experience. 2. Solid understanding of networking protocols such as TCP/IP, UDP, HTTP. 3. Experience with Kubernetes (k8s), Istio service mesh and Envoy is highly desirable. 4. Proven ability to diagnose and tackle performance issues across the networking stack. 5. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. 6. Ability to take a project from scoping requirements through actual launch of the project. For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$198,000 per year - USD$220,000 per year. For Seattle, WA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$198,000 per year - USD$220,000 per year. For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$198,000 per year - USD$220,000 per year. For all US locations, you will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp. You will also be eligible for various benefits.
