The Role
We are seeking a forward-thinking professional to join the Netflix DACH Production team as our Manager, Visual Effects. This position will lead the production team's exploration and implementation of new technologies, as well as oversee the visual effects (VFX) and virtual production (VP) workflows for all projects on the DACH slate. In this role, you will be working closely with Netflix's external partners (talent, vendors and producers) and our internal cross-functional teams in Germany and across EMEA.
We are looking for someone strategic, passionate, and thorough who is a fast learner and can pivot between diverse responsibilities quickly. The ideal candidate will have comprehensive knowledge of key VFX and VP players and workflows, a strong curiosity about new innovations and emerging tools, and the ability to communicate effectively as a VFX/Innovation expert at industry-related events, while also being able to translate complex concepts into understandable terms for a non-technical audience.
Responsibilities:
Manage all aspects of VFX and VP on all applicable shows on the slate, including overseeing external supervisors and producers, providing internal quality control, financial oversight, and managing vendor relationships.
Serve as the DACH Production team's point of contact and leader for new production technologies and innovations, tracking their usage in the industry, exploring new opportunities, aligning with other Netflix teams, and evolving the team’s strategy as needed.
Serve as a creative sparring partner to internal Content and Production executives, providing early insights and suggestions for VFX, VP and innovation usage on series and films during the development period through delivery.
Act as an internal resource, leader and teacher to help the Netflix cross-functional teams elevate their understanding and utilization of new technologies throughout our workflows.
Proactively seek out innovative solutions and opportunities that elevate the creative excellence of the slate and optimize the workflow efficiency.
Cultivate connections with the local companies and producers working with innovative tools in the region, maintaining those relationships for potential future implementation across our slate.
Work with internal teams such as Public Policy, Comms, and PR to keep them up to speed on innovation usage and highlight opportunities to feature these stories.
10+ years working in the VFX industry, or a similar number of years experience working in a leading capacity overseeing content that had extensive VFX, virtual production or other production innovations utilized.
Strong existing relationships within the German VFX industry, and good familiarity with the key regional and global VFX vendors
Fluency in German and working proficiency in English is required.
Familiarity with traditional scripted and nonscripted production workflows, and knowledge of emerging production workflows, including UGC.
Experience working with Google Suite and Microsoft applications. Knowledge of Movie Magic, Flow Production Tracking, Shotgrid, Cinesync, Syncsketch, or similar industry-standard software is beneficial.
Team player with an ability to supervise several projects in various production stages (from development through delivery) in a very fast-paced environment.
Strong time management, organisational, written and verbal communication skills are a must.
