The Role

We are looking to add an experienced Post Production Manager to the UCAN Scripted Comedy Series team. This position will act as both an internal and external ‘show-facing’ executive for Netflix, overseeing a slate of comedy series produced by external storytellers and, in some cases, external production companies.  Additionally, this role will also lead or support internal projects and initiatives with our cross-functional teams across Netflix.

Further, they will be responsible for recommending and managing Post Producers, Post Supervisors, Editors, and other external post staff, as needed, on each individual title.  The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about networking and getting to know key talent in the field and should also be interested in helping identify opportunities to develop and encourage the next generation of post production talent.

A successful candidate will have a demonstrated history of strong project management skills specifically within post production on comedy series, as well as a passion for the genre.  Candidates should be self-motivated, proactive, quick-thinking, flexible, thorough, and able to juggle multiple and diverse responsibilities with a strong emphasis on organization and an unwavering attention to detail at all times. Team leadership experience and the ability to delegate is key.  Candidates should excel at exercising good judgment and communication even during times of ambiguity.  This is a demanding and fast moving position that requires someone who is both solution-driven and positive-thinking.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Creating, reviewing, and approving post budgets, schedules, and staffing plans, ensuring consistency and continuity with broader expectations in the comedy field.

  • Reviewing and approving vendor bids

  • Advising on key post workflows, including camera capture, media management, final delivery, and archive.

  • Creating and modifying deliverables lists based on project expectations and requirements.

  • Providing consistent communication and support to production and post production partners throughout the entire project life cycle.

  • Participating in regular show update calls.

  • Leading Finishing & Delivery Kick Off meetings and other post-specific calls as needed.

  • Maintaining up-to-date records of important show-related information.

  • Communicating with and advising internal partners on milestone expectations and needs, troubleshooting and negotiating challenges as needed.

  • Working with Post Production Associate Managers and Asset Specialists to ensure proper and timely delivery of all expected deliverables. 

  • Advising on launch date viability and concerns with internal partners. 

  • Reviewing and approving screening assets for premieres, festivals, or other public screenings.

  • Helping set up, attending, and participating in key approval sessions when necessary (i.e. mix, grade reviews, etc)

  • Keeping up to date with Netflix’s cutting edge tools, specs, and technologies

  • Working with internal teams to identify ways to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of communication systems.

  • Attending post production events, shows, and meetings as required, representing Netflix at the highest standard at all times.

Qualifications:

  • 10-15+ years of experience in series post production, including substantial experience in upper-level managerial/supervisory positions such as Post Producer, Post Supervisor, Post Production Executive, etc.

  • Experience in both show-side and studio-side rolls as well as specific experience on comedy series is highly preferred.

  • A passion for comedy series and a comfort navigating the ever-changing plans that go hand-in-hand with the fast pace nature of half-hour content.

  • Experience with budgeting and scheduling for post production on comedy series.

  • Experience with collecting and negotiating vendor bids

  • Knowledge of current trends for post production workflows for both UHD/4K, Dolby Vision/HDR, and Dolby Atmos.

  • Familiarity with professional-grade camera formats & compressions as well as the tools used during offline editorial, picture finishing, and sound finishing workflows

  • A team-player who thrives in a fast paced, team-oriented setting

  • Ability to be discrete and maintain confidential information

  • Desire and self-motivation to continuously learn

  • Track record of fostering, building, and maintaining relationships with filmmakers, Post Producers, Post Supervisors, Editors, and key vendors, among other roles.

  • Proficiency in Google Suite and budgeting software would be advantageous.

  • Ability and willingness to travel for official work, such as to visit productions, support titles & storytellers at industry events, etc.

Our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top of market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range. The range for this role is $160,000 - $360,000
