## About the role:
Join our dynamic and innovative Maps routing team, where you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Maps routing. As a Senior Routing Engineer, you will be at the forefront of developing and optimizing cutting-edge routing algorithms and the underlying systems that power our map experiences. You'll tackle complex challenges in pathfinding, real-time traffic integration, and optimization for various transportation modes. **What the Candidate Will Do :**
1. ## Design, develop, implement, and deploy advanced routing algorithms and systems for our Maps platform.
2. ## Optimize existing routing algorithms for performance, scalability, and accuracy.
3. ## Work with real-time traffic data and other dynamic information sources to improve routing quality.
4. ## Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define product requirements and technical specifications.
5. ## Participate in code reviews and ensure code quality and best practices.
6. ## Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues related to routing systems.
7. ## Research and evaluate new technologies and methodologies to enhance our routing capabilities.
8. ## Contribute to the technical roadmap and strategic direction of the routing team **.**
## About the Team:
The Maps Routing team is fundamental to the core operations of our platform, not only powering seamless navigation for millions of users globally but also enabling critical functionality for our marketplace. Our mission is to develop and maintain the intelligent algorithms and scalable systems that power precise route calculations, considering factors like real-time traffic, detailed road network data, diverse transportation modes, and user preferences. Beyond guiding users from A to B, our work directly fuels marketplace matching by providing accurate estimated times of arrival (ETAs) for services and enhancing the rider experience by pushing real-time driver routes and ETAs directly to the rider app. We're a passionate group of engineers dedicated to pushing the boundaries of routing technology, constantly innovating to improve accuracy, speed, and the overall user experience across all our services.
## Minimum qualifications:
- PhD or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or related field OR 3-years full-time Software Engineering work experience, WHICH INCLUDES 2-years total technical software engineering experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Programming language (e.g. C, C++, Java, Python, or Go)
- Note the 2-years total of specialized software engineering experience may have been gained through education and full-time work experience, additional training, coursework, research, or similar (OR some combination of these).Β The years of specialized experience are not necessarily in addition to the years of Education & full-time work experience indicated.
## Technical skills:
Preferred:
1. Master's or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field with a focus on algorithms or optimization.
2. Experience in developing and deploying routing algorithms or related graph-based algorithms.
3. Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and geospatial data.
4. Experience with real-time data processing and streaming technologies.
5. Contributions to open-source projects related to routing or navigation.
6. Experience with machine learning techniques applied to routing or traffic prediction.
7. Experience working in an Agile development environment.

For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$198,000 per year - USD$220,000 per year.
For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$198,000 per year - USD$220,000 per year.
For all US locations, you will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp. You will also be eligible for various benefits.
