**About the Role**
We are looking for someone who gets excited solving tough business problems by applying scientific methods and bringing value from our extensive data resources.
The EMEA Data Science Ops team assists EMEA Operations teams in addressing questions and resolving problems by employing data-driven methods and models. Our team is dedicated to supporting these teams by leveraging experimentation and quasi-experimentation to analyze the impact and outcomes of our actions. We also utilize modeling techniques to predict and optimize unresolved business challenges. Collaborating closely with the operations teams who implement these decisions, we engage in projects spanning from developing pricing models to assessing the impact of new product launches.
Your primary responsibilities will revolve around these fundamental activities: aligning with business objectives, formulating clear problem statements, and managing data through collection, cleaning, and structuring. You will also conduct analytical explorations, apply techniques for inferential and predictive modeling, and effectively communicate the results.
You will explore opportunities across a range of topics. This includes designing and executing experiments within the Uber marketplace and developing ML models for product launches. Additionally, you will work on Market Health models, Causal Inference models for policy evaluation, and Optimization models for pricing or investment challenges, among other problems and techniques.
**What the Candidate Will Do:**
Reporting to the DS Manager leading our DS Ops Pod, this person will be responsible for:
- Experimentation, including designing and executing experiments to test / answer specific business questions, or to support launch and roll out plans of new products or features
- Causal Inference: using inference techniques to evaluate actions and policies, particularly in cases where experimentation is not an option.
- Modeling, including building or validating existing optimization and predictive ML models.
- Opportunity identification, qualification & prioritization;
- Orchestrating the focus of quantitative resources to maximize the impact for Uber Mobility EMEA
- Stakeholder Management; build strong relationships with teams in both central and local operations, to help identify, shape, execute and evaluate business opportunities underpinned by advanced quantitative methods
- Technical Leadership; role-modeling and communicating our vision for the role that science-based decision taking plays in driving value at Uber
- Mentor and guide junior team members to elevate the team's analytical standards. This includes raising the bar on analysis quality, exploring innovative techniques, conducting thorough peer reviews, and contributing to the continuous improvement of our existing solutions.
**What the Candidate Will Need / Basic Qualifications:**
- 4+ years of experience (Bachelor) OR 3+ years of experience (Masters) in a data-focused role such as product analytics, business analytics, business operations, or data science
- Postgraduate degree / research experience in STEM subjects
- Strong knowledge in SQL, Python (for Data Science)
- Strong knowledge of causal inference, experimentation, and econometrics statistics methods for analytical problems
- Ability and motivation to learn and quickly apply new quantitative methods and techniques to business contexts.
- Apply advanced technical skills to solve complex, abstract problems. Successfully understand the trade-offs between various options and manage projects from initiation to completion.
- Stakeholder mgmt. experience, ideally in a business context
- Love of data - you just go get the data you need and turn it into an insightful story.
- A well-organized, structured approach to problem-solving
**Preferred Qualifications / Bonus Points:**
- Proven experience in mentoring, teaching skills, and peer review.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to be an excellent team player and assist colleagues.
- The ability to communicate effectively and to coordinate multiple stakeholders in ambiguous circumstances
