The Role
The Manager, Communications will be part of the Communications team responsible for promoting and protecting Netflix’s reputation for series, films, and games. In addition to helping define the Netflix narrative through proactive press stories, this role will lead on communications strategy for our growing portfolio of Consumer Products and Experiences business, including but not limited to: campaign planning and execution, product and experience launches, franchise and brand management, media relations, issues management and executive communications. This role is based out of the Los Angeles office and reports to the Director, Communications.
Our ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker, strong communicator, and a relationship builder with strong press relationships and a proven track record in pitching, securing and shaping strategic press coverage. We’re looking for a creative and collaborative team player who thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and is an entrepreneurial self-starter unafraid to take calculated risks. They will have a finger on the pulse of culture with experience leading campaigns for entertainment, media, retail or lifestyle companies, including working directly with creators, talent, licensing and retail partners, representatives and the press. They will be able to make wise decisions and exercise sound judgment even when faced with ambiguity.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement communications strategies, messaging and plans amplifying Netflix’s franchises, consumer products and experiences, including: retail product launches, pop-up and permanent retail storefronts, restaurants and fan experiences.
Craft strategic campaigns, brand and franchise narratives, and impactful press pitches to proactively secure press coverage that elevates Netflix’s reputation for a broad and diverse range of entertainment.
Provide counsel and partner closely with executives, publicity, marketing, consumer products, experiences, and other cross-functional teams to shape long term strategy, tell stronger brand and franchise stories, and manage issues.
Work closely with external partners across consumer products and experiences to guide and align communications strategies and optimize plans for Netflix and franchise positioning and maximum press coverage.
Secure, prepare, and coordinate executive interviews and speaking opportunities.
Advocate for Netflix with consumer, business and trade media, industry influencers and other third parties.
Qualifications
8+ years of experience in corporate or agency settings preferably within entertainment, media, retail, lifestyle or technology industries
Background in journalism also highly relevant
Skilled storyteller who can thoughtfully craft narratives and boil down complex concepts into succinct and effective press pitches
Strong media relationships at traditional and emerging entertainment, consumer, trade and business outlets across broadcast, print, online and digital.
A curious and ambitious self-starter with a pulse on what makes for culture-defining conversations and an ability to put Netflix at the forefront
Ability to leverage insights, develop and secure stories aligned to company priorities
Passionate about the evolving entertainment landscape with a strong working knowledge of social platforms and trends
Strong track record in handling and successfully delivering on a high volume of complex projects and tasks
Clear and concise communication style; strong written and verbal skills
Meticulous organizational skills, good judgment of brand and comms risks, and effective time management
Have a point of view, and able to offer a unique perspective and voice
Our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top of market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range. The range for this role is $160,000 - $320,000.
