Job Description

Remote

Netflix is one of the world's leading entertainment services, with 283 million paid memberships in over 190 countries enjoying TV series, films and games across a wide variety of genres and languages. Members can play, pause and resume watching as much as they want, anytime, anywhere, and can change their plans at any time.

About the team:

We innovate on delivery orchestration, real-time metrics derived from a firehose of user events, and analysis on these metrics enabling the client engineers to focus on frequently releasing their applications. Our application releases are an AB test (more details available in the Safe Updates of Client Applications at Netflix blog post). We are constantly evolving our allocation strategy, metrics, and inferential analysis to account for the constraints that impact our use case. As we invested in systems to continuously evaluate application changes, it led to increased development velocity, which arguably led to better development practices and quality of the applications. We are extending these systems to be available beyond our streaming business domain, exposing us to a plethora of new challenges, making every single day at work an opportunity to learn and build something new.

About the role

  • Focus on making experiments and canaries easy to implement.

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience in backend or frontend engineering, with a strong understanding of web services and APIs.

  • Experience with experimentation / AB test delivery and allocation services.

  • Analytic skills related to working with large streaming datasets.

  • Design & programming skills in an object-oriented programming language, preferably Java/Scala

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Bonus if You Have:

  • Knowledge of descriptive and inductive statistics.

  • Familiarity with messaging/queuing systems and stream processing systems like Mantis, Flink, or Spark Streaming.
