Senior Data Engineer

What is the role about?

We are looking for a talented Data Engineer to join the Data Platform team in our established Platform Engineering team.

As a Data Engineer in the Data Platform team, you will be instrumental in providing and maintaining a robust data platform to support broader data-heavy functions within Bitvavo, including Reporting, Analytics and Data Science. 

As a senior data engineer, you will collaborate with other engineering teams to maintain the scalability, reliability and maintainability of Bitvavo’s overall technical stack. You will also work closely with business and product teams to ensure the timeliness and efficiency of data-driven decision-making.

Bitvavo’s primary infrastructure runs on AWS. Technologies we love include Snowflake, Airflow, Python, SQL, DBT and Kafka. Terraform handles our infrastructure as code.

• You'll dive into the world of pipelines, where you'll architect and optimise data pipelines, ensuring seamless data flow and efficient processing. Your contributions will directly impact the reliability and speed of our data operations.
• You'll collaborate closely with other engineering teams, providing valuable support and expertise on specific data use cases.
• You'll engage with our talented analysts, immersing yourself in their world to truly understand their data needs. By collaborating closely with them, you'll help shape the foundation for insightful data analysis and drive actionable insights.

How will you be successful?

• You bring a strong technical background. Familiarity with our tech stack (see above) is a plus.
• Apart from your knack for data, you bring solid software engineering principles and practices, including test-driven development, professional use of source control, IDEs, etc. You are a productive coder who is aware of best practices.
• You have a greater than average apprehension of distributed systems and their inherent challenges, including trade-offs between consistency and availability, scalability, failure modes, and administration challenges.
• You build on your knowledge of contemporary data warehousing technology and techniques and understand data-intensive user-facing products well. You can tune performance across multiple components of the technical infrastructure.
