Technical Product Manager - Core Exchange API

Are you an expert in financial systems, exchanges or trading technologies? We are looking for a highly-specialised Technical Product Manager to drive the optimisation of the Core Exchange API, the backbone of our exchange platform. 

What is the role about?

As a Technical Product Manager at Bitvavo, you will have an exciting opportunity to shape and make a real impact on the future of a leading European retail investment platform. You will play a critical role in enhancing the Core Exchange API domain, while in close contact with product teams and other parts of the business to understand their needs and map them against your internal backlog. This is not just a generalist role; we are seeking someone with a deep understanding of financial markets, trading systems, and high-performance APIs.

How will you make an impact?

The Core Exchange API team is responsible for the key functionalities of Bitvavo’s exchange - Exchange API, order management, fees calculation, market data and external developer documentation of our services (https://docs.bitvavo.com/). This team is a part of the broader Exchange domain and collaborates closely with other teams, especially Matching Engine one.

Your role will require close collaboration with backend developers, Engineering Managers and the Matching Engine team to ensure optimal performance, reliability, and scalability of our API. Your responsibilities will include:

• Designing and maintaining the product roadmap for Core Exchange API, aligned with business and product strategies
• Conducting in-depth market research and interviewing market makers to understand their needs and benchmark API performance against industry standards
• Translating technical and business requirements into clear product specifications
• Monitoring performance metrics and KPIs for the Core Exchange API, ensuring high-speed, low-latency operation
• Managing cross-functional projects with a focus on timely and high-quality delivery
• Supporting compliance with evolving regulations in financial markets through strategic API enhancements

How will you be successful?

• 5+ years of experience in technical product management, focused on financial or trading systems
• A strong technical background, with hands-on experience or a deep understanding of backend systems, APIs, and distributed architectures
• Proven experience in financial products requiring high speed and performance, such as stock exchanges, crypto exchanges, brokers or trading platforms, HFT trading systems
• Deep understanding of financial markets, market microstructure and the trading industry
• Demonstrated ability to take calculated risks when necessary to deliver results
• Exceptional skills in project management and cross-functional collaboration, with a delivery-focused mindset
• Experience with complex deployment planning, ideally in regulated environments
