Software Engineer (L5) - Open Connect Control Plane, Cloud Games

Netflix is one of the world's leading entertainment services, with 283 million paid memberships in over 190 countries enjoying TV series, films and games across a wide variety of genres and languages. Members can play, pause and resume watching as much as they want, anytime, anywhere, and can change their plans at any time.

Netflix has been changing the way people watch shows and movies and we've built a global Content Delivery Network called Open Connect, which sets the standard for video delivery.  Netflix is branching out into Cloud Gaming and we need to extend Open Connect to support this exciting new experience.

We are looking to add to the engineering team responsible for building the Cloud Gaming Control Plane:

The Control Plane includes:

• Cloud services that customers directly hit when they press ‘Play’

• Systems for tracking deployment of game builds

• Algorithms for deploying game builds in an efficient manner (e.g.  peer-to-peer)

We spend our time trying to answer questions like these:

• How do we design our systems to react to failure, traffic shifts and other changes in real-time?

• How do we provide the best experience to Game Developers who are using the Netflix Cloud Gaming Platform

We are looking for a software engineer hybrid who identifies with the following: 

• You build robust, clean, maintainable software.

• You care deeply about testing, metrics, observability, and tooling.

• You are willing to reduce tech debt and improve tech health.

• You care deeply about the customer experience.

• You are comfortable with ambiguity.

• You are able to iterate quickly on ideas and incorporate feedback.

Basic Qualifications:

• 5+ years software development and proficiency with a modern programming language

• Distributed Systems experience (e.g. familiarity with NoSQL, AWS, microservices, etc)

Nice To Have:

• Basic background in networking concepts

• Experience working at scale

• Professional experience with Gaming, Cloud Gaming or CDNs

• Big Data Experience (e.g. Hive, Spark, Presto, etc.)
