About the Job
We’re looking for an experienced full-time Lead Artist with strong drawing and painting skills in a broad range of styles and with an outstanding ability to create characters, environments, and props. Must have great design and animation sensibilities shaped by games and cinematic language. As an Art Lead at Night School Studio, you’ll be responsible for the art direction at a project leadership level for one of our game titles. This position will work with the Art Director, Designers, and Engineering Team to bring innovative gameplay to life in the Unity Engine.
Responsibilities:
Lead a game’s multidisciplinary project art team, including 2D, 3D, animation, and VFX artists
Provide art direction and feedback to a team of artists and external vendors
Collaborate with the Studio Art Director to define and own key aspects of the project
Develop custom pipelines tailored to the project's creative and technological needs in partnership with Engineering
Create visual touchstone assets that inspire and set visual direction for others
Anticipate, identify, and present problem areas and develop preventative solutions for the team
Collaborate with the Studio Art Director to align on studio artistic goals, vision, and scope
Supervise, train, mentor, motivate, and support the development of artists on a project
Engage in daily production meetings to ensure art is on track and work closely with Production to ensure schedules and plans meet business and project needs
Collaborate with senior management to maintain the team's health and strength
Collaborate with game design to ensure art enhances the player experience in Unity
Exemplify reliability, accountability, and professionalism in all work-related interactions
Lead by example, creating a strong sense of purpose and community, positivity, promoting a culture of excellence and inclusivity, encouraging a sustainable work/life balance
Skills and Abilities:
10 years of experience crafting video game art
3 years experience as a Lead Artist or Art Director
Illustration or 3d background
Proven ability to develop a unique and cohesive visual style in collaboration with an Art Director
Proven ability to visually solve problems in collaboration with the broader game team, including other artists, engineering leads, and design leads
Excellent written and verbal communication. Comfortable interacting with and presenting to all levels of the company
Excellent attention to detail and a strong desire to iterate and improve on processes
Demonstrated fundamentals of leadership, including clear and proactive communication, meeting moderation, and oversight of large cross-disciplinary initiatives
Ability to manage multiple competing tasks and be self-directed to meet deadlines in a quickly evolving environment with little to no supervision
Positive attitude and ability to receive and provide objective and constructive feedback
Ability to coach, manage, mitigate, and prioritize through stressful situations for you and your team
A strategic thinker with the ability to identify risks, opportunities, and innovations
Generally, our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top of market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range. The range for this role is $200,000 - $320,000.
