Job Description

Netflix is one of the world's leading entertainment services, with 283 million paid memberships in over 190 countries enjoying TV series, films and games across a wide variety of genres and languages. Members can play, pause and resume watching as much as they want, anytime, anywhere, and can change their plans at any time.

We are big believers in the power of the consumer voice when it comes to movies. The Film Consumer Insights team strives to bring that voice to as many business decisions as possible, especially when it comes to creating movies that the world will love. This requires an unparalleled level of insight to understand what motivates “must-watch” entertainment moments, member love, and a desire to join Netflix among non-members.

We are looking for an exceptional storyteller and presenter who can craft compelling data-driven narratives that inspire stakeholders as they make key business decisions. The Senior Researcher, Film Intelligence is designed to maximize the company's consumer insights brainpower in the film space. This is a high-impact role that will collaborate with other Consumer Insights researchers, interface with high-level executives within the company, and own relationships outside of Netflix.

A deep understanding of film, gained from working at a studio or on the research agency side, is likely to be critical for success. If you don’t have that but still think you could be successful in this job, let us know why.

In This Role, You Will:

  • Be the voice of film landscape insights and the industry broadly, keeping stakeholder teams closely connected to the needs of entertainment consumers. This is a high-visibility role that requires presenting in large forums

  • Lead mixed method research studies from inception to completion, maximize our internal knowledge base, and leverage syndicated research to build a strong understanding of consumer needs in movies today for Netflix stakeholders

  • Own film-related intelligence workstreams and cross-team projects that amplify our team’s impact beyond our suite of title research

  • Develop innovative approaches with an eye toward experimenting with new research methods

  • The role is primarily focused on special projects and cross-collaborative initiatives, though will include some title-specific responsibilities

About you:

  • At least 7+ years of hands-on research experience at a studio or market research agency, ideally a mix, and with deep film knowledge

  • Experience in designing, planning, and executing research projects end-to-end, particularly quantitative methods

  • Experience partnering with Data Science teams to enhance research approaches and deliverables

  • A phenomenal communicator with strong presentation skills and compelling storytelling capabilities

  • You connect the dots and surface learnings from past research to apply today, making an audience think/feel things they wouldn’t have otherwise

  • An excellent collaborator; able to build strong relationships both within your team and with business partners

  • Experience socializing research findings across different departments, from content/creative to marketing/communications, pivoting to different needs seamlessly

  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity and adapting to change, with strong prioritization and time management skills

  • Experience managing international research in markets outside the US is a plus

  • Familiarity with a range of research methodologies and tools including innovative solutions is a plus

  • Advanced degree in research, social sciences, or a related field is a plus
