Role Overview:
As a Game Director at Night School Studio, you will lead the creative vision for a game project, guiding all elements to ensure a cohesive and immersive narrative gameplay experience. Working closely with studio and project leadership, you will bring our games to life by integrating story, worldbuilding, and engaging gameplay to create a world-class, storytelling-rich game for Netflix members.

Responsibilities:

  • Creative Vision: Define and promote the game’s core principles, player journey, quality standards, and key deliverables. Oversee the technical, aesthetic, and narrative aspects, reviewing designs for mechanics and content throughout development.

  • Team Leadership: Partner with Production and Operations to build, then lead a team of talented designers, artists, and engineers. Cultivate an inclusive and collaborative studio culture that empowers team members to excel.

  • Narrative Integration: Prioritize narrative, writing, worldbuilding, and story from the outset of development. Ensure the game’s story is central to the player experience.

  • Strategic Planning: Partnering with Production and Operations, develop and implement the production plan, combining creative goals with innovative development practices. Work with producers and studio leadership to secure necessary support and resources.

  • Stakeholder Communication: Regularly present the game’s direction and strategy to stakeholders and internal Netflix partners. Collaborate with Marketing and Communications to promote the game.

  • Industry Awareness: Stay informed about industry trends, innovations, and breakthroughs. Shape the strategic direction and identity of our games to ensure they resonate with players.

  • Quality Assurance: Ensure that gameplay and content align with the narrative focus of our games, delighting fans worldwide.

  • Mentorship: Create processes to mentor, inspire, and empower studio talent. Provide constructive feedback that enables team members to perform at their best

Requirements:

  • Experience: At least 7 years in the game industry, with 5 years as a Creative Director or Game Director and a portfolio of shipped games. Proven track record in establishing and maintaining design direction and delivering high-quality narrative games.

  • Leadership: Skilled at providing feedback, building consensus, aligning teams, and inspiring creativity. Capable of leading inclusively and holding team members accountable.

  • Narrative Focus: Deep understanding of narrative, writing, worldbuilding, and story. Experience leading multidisciplinary teams to enhance storytelling and gameplay experiences.

  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, characterized by authenticity, intention, and curiosity.

  • Technical Knowledge: Experience in developing and launching games using Unity. Proficient with production tools such as Jira and Confluence.

  • Industry Awareness: Ability to identify and respond to industry trends, innovations, and breakthroughs.

  • Passion for Games: Enthusiasm for playing, incubating, building, and shipping video games. Passion for creating structure and organization to support creativity and innovation.

Generally, our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top of market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range. The range for this role is $220,000 - $440,000.

We also offer paid leave of absence programs.  Full-time hourly employees accrue 35 days annually for paid time off to be used for vacation, holidays, and sick paid time off.
