About the Role:

The Onboarding Specialist - Checker Stage is responsible for the final review and quality control of merchant onboarding applications. Working closely with the Maker team, the Checker Specialist ensures that each application meets all compliance and business requirements, following a meticulous verification process to support a smooth and seamless onboarding experience.

 

Responsibilities: -

  • Conduct thorough final-stage checks on merchant applications, ensuring all information and documentation meet compliance and RBI regulations.
  • Verify KYM (Know Your Merchant) documents and merchant information for accuracy and completeness.
  • Cross-check information verified by the Maker team to identify and address any discrepancies or compliance issues.
  • Ensure high-quality output by maintaining an eye for detail, flagging any irregularities for rework, and collaborating with the Maker team as necessary.
  • Approve or reject applications based on set guidelines, flagging specific cases for further review if needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of each onboarding case for audit and compliance purposes.
  • Provide feedback and insights to the Maker team to improve first-level verification accuracy and reduce rework.
  • Meet daily and weekly productivity targets, adhering to turnaround time (TAT) and quality benchmarks.
  • Escalate complex cases to senior stakeholders for additional support.
  • Collaborate closely with internal teams to ensure timely resolution of onboarding blockers.
  • Adhere to PhonePe’s policies and standards, acting with integrity in each verification process.

 

Ideal Candidate Should:

  • Have at least 1-2 years of experience mandatorily in KYC/AML verification or compliance-related roles.
  • Be proficient in English and Hindi (Read, Write and Speak); additional language skills are a plus.
  • Demonstrate exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
  • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills to coordinate effectively with Maker team members and other stakeholders.
  • Be familiar with regulatory requirements related to KYC and merchant onboarding processes.
  • Exhibit a customer-centric mindset with the ability to make objective, compliant decisions.
  • Be proactive in identifying process improvements and recommending enhancements to increase efficiency.
  • Be able to multitask effectively and work well under time constraints.
  • Have completed a degree program (10+2+3), with additional certifications in compliance or financial regulation as an advantage.
