Job Description

Netflix seeks an attorney to join the Original Stand-Up, Sketch & Comedy Formats business & legal affairs team to handle a wide array of responsibilities related to the licensing, development, production, and distribution of Netflix's original stand-up, sketch and comedy formats content initiative. 

The successful candidate will work closely with the entire Original Stand-Up, Sketch & Comedy Formats cross functional team (e.g. Content, Production, Finance, IP,  Labor), and in conjunction with the broader Comedy business & legal affairs team, and take on wide-ranging responsibilities including, drafting, structuring and negotiating agreements necessary in connection with licensing, developing, and producing (both live and live to tape) the company's stand-up comedy specials (with such talent as Ali Wong, Sarah Silverman, John Mulaney,  Bert Kreischer  & Shane Gillis), variety shows (on-going series and specials), sketch comedies, Netflix Is A Joke Comedy Festival, and the Netflix is a Joke Radio SiriusXM initiative and should be comfortable counseling business partners and making decisions that have both legal and business impacts.  

This role will be based in either New York, NY or Los Angeles, CA. 

REQUIREMENTS

The successful candidate will have approximately  five (5) years of development and production business and/or legal experience in the film or television industry, with experience in helping to negotiate and draft all forms of development, licensing, production and/or distribution agreements.  Familiarity with the development, production, and multi-platform distribution of stand-up comedy, variety shows and/or non-fiction programming and general entertainment industry knowledge is a plus.  Fluency with related documents and related issues (e.g., production services agreements, talent agreements, license agreements, EP/writer agreements, standard terms, related IP issues) is appreciated.  

The successful candidate will also possess the following: 

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Strong analytical capabilities and judgment.

  • Ability to work proactively, independently and reliably under tight timeframes in a fast-paced environment,  interacting with internal and external parties across time zones.

  • Ability to work with the broader BLA Comedy team, specifically in the kids non-fiction, animation, and/or original scripted series space, as needed.

  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively cross-functionally, think practically and be solution-oriented.

  • A commitment to embrace and advocate for inclusion is essential.

  • Working cross functionally to maintain alignment between departments and teams.

  • Willingness to tackle matters outside area of expertise 

  • High level of organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize and time-manage across multiple deadlines and time zones.

  • J.D. and membership in good standing in at least one state bar is required.  

Our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top of market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range. The range for this role is $130,000 - $380,000.
