Join us in shaping the future of food and retail delivery at Deliveroo, where impact, innovation, and growth drive everything we do. Our innovative legal professionals don't just solve problems—we partner with the business to find creative solutions, think holistically, and help drive Deliveroo's mission forward while protecting our company and stakeholders.
You will join us as an Insurance and Claims Counsel in our Insurance team based in London. You will play a critical role in helping the business to defend and manage contentious issues arising across its 10 markets while supporting the day-to-day management of Deliveroo’s global insurance programmes.
The role will report to the Head of Ethics, Compliance & Insurance and be overseen on a day-to-day basis by the Director of Corporate Insurance. You will also work closely with other senior stakeholders across Legal, Security, Enterprise Tech, Property, Care and Operations, as well as with Deliveroo’s brokers, insurers, external counsel and rider insurance consultants.
You will be responsible for providing pragmatic, risk-based advice to protect the business while enabling it to pursue its commercial objectives in a responsible and compliant manner. We are also seeking an individual with a passion for using data to spot emerging risks, insights and trends that we can leverage to prevent future claims arising. This role is a unique insurance opportunity to work in an exciting global business.
This role is based out of our London office; you will need to be on-site 3 days a week.

- Claims management
- Lead the defence and internal management of claims and other contentious matters with the support of others in the Legal team and business.
- Assist with the management and notification of claims, potential claims, complaints and incidents.
- Maintain and update the schedule of notifications/potential notifications to ensure that matters are proactively tracked and reviewed with our insurers, and any trends/wider risk management issues can be identified and escalated.
- Attend (internal and external) claims catch-ups (ensuring appropriate agendas are agreed in advance), document discussions and follow up on agreed actions as appropriate.
- Renewal and programme management
- Assist with the collation (and verification) of data for the purposes of the placement, management and renewal of our insurance programmes (including working with the Property team to maintain our schedule of Deliveroo property).
- Assist with the preparation of market presentation slides and other materials—including liaising with a range of stakeholders to address any follow-up or supplementary questions from our brokers and/or insurers.
- Help manage any mid-term changes and policy endorsements, and arrange cover for any new risks, projects, events and locations.
- Help to arrange and document discussions with insurers and brokers.
- Review and check policy documentation, and maintain a comprehensive and complete insurance data and document archive.
- Propose and update internal documentation and guidance to reflect renewal outcomes.
- Stakeholder engagement and support
- Assist with insurance-related queries arising from business initiatives, commercial contract reviews and partner negotiations, and new projects.
- Provide general insurance support within Legal and to the wider business.
- Work to ensure that insurance is and continues to be embedded within incident response, business continuity and risk management policies and procedures.
- Work with and track actions with/the progress of our insurance brokers.
- Other activities
- Undertake research (e.g., into market conditions, local insurance requirements, applicable case law, etc).
- Work on ad hoc projects that arise from time to time.
- Provide administrative support, including checking and arranging payment of invoices.
What do you need to bring to the table?
- Excellent academics (minimum 2:1 degree or equivalent).
- At least 4 years of experience in a law firm or insurance industry setting (prior litigation and claims—particularly personal injury—experience is desirable).
- Strong risk and insurance knowledge, with the ability to provide practical, supportive, solution-oriented advice and to translate ‘insurance’ jargon into the commercial language of the business.
- A strong attention to detail while being able to see ‘the bigger picture’.
- An ability to effectively gather and analyse relevant data and information, identify any irregularities and challenge it where necessary, and present information in a clear, concise and logical manner.
- Experience working in fast-paced environments, enabling you to react quickly and make decisions with a sense of humor.
- Be a confident communicator—you are as happy describing risks to an Exec team member as you are to a grad in the Marketing team, and you adapt your style to suit.
- Strong planning and organisational skills with a proven track record of working to deadlines, managing multiple workstreams concurrently with limited supervision and taking ownership of your matters. You’re a self-starter who takes the initiative.
- Be a proven team player and a developing leader. Even our most junior team members are given the opportunity to hone their leadership skills.
- Have a growth mindset—in a business like ours, you’re always learning.
