Microsoft AI’s (MAI) mission is to use AI responsibly to make everyone more informed, capable, and supported. MAI is responsible for Microsoft’s consumer propositions including Copilot, Bing, MSN, Microsoft Advertising, and Edge, as well as developing proprietary foundational AI models. MAI works closely with a variety of teams across Microsoft and across the full AI stack to deliver on Microsoft’s AI ambitions.
We’re on the lookout for a strong Technical Advisor to join the office of the CEO of Microsoft AI (MAI). The right candidate takes the initiative and enjoys finding paths through complexity in a fast-paced environment. This role entails offering strategic, technical counsel utilizing their proven experience in software engineering and AI to enhance executive decision-making and drive innovation and growth across the business. This includes quickly prototyping and evaluating pieces of technology to share findings. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working across a variety of different projects and evaluations as they surface ad-hoc and will be able to clearly synthesize insights into clear exec-level written documents.

By applying to this role based in U.S. Mountain View, CA, you are required to be local to the San Francisco area and in office 3 days a week.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct support to the CEO of MAI on strategic and technical matters – identifying areas of opportunity and risk to ensure robust and scalable solutions are in place
- Spot emerging trends and technologies in software engineering and AI, ensuring the company remains at the cutting edge.
- Prototype and evaluate pieces of technology in order to develop insights and share findings
- Oversee critical technical projects and initiatives, guaranteeing timely delivery, scope adherence, and alignment with strategic objectives.
- Serve as a liaison between the CEO of MAI and internal/external stakeholders, ensuring clear communication and alignment.
- Clearly communicate strategies, progress, and results to executive leadership and key stakeholders, advocating for the quality and efficiency function within the team.
- Identify business needs and devising solutions, including software development, process improvement, and strategic planning.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 8 years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C , C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
- 3 years of experience working in the field of AI, working with large language models and their applications
- OR Master's Degree in equivalent experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 12 years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C , C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10 years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C , C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
Software Engineering IC6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $161,600 - $286,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $209,600 - $314,400 per year.
