Senior Applied Scientist

The Applied Sciences Group (ASG) at Microsoft is an interdisciplinary team of scientists and developers focused on incubating next-generation technologies across Microsoft Devices.

ASG is hiring a Senior Applied Scientist to be responsible for managing the end-to-end lifecycle of AI models, ensuring they meet user requirements, compliance standards, and alignment with business goals. This includes:

• Dataset curation – Collecting and refining datasets to improve model performance.
• Compliance & Alignment – Ensuring AI models adhere to regulatory and ethical standards.
• Training & Monitoring – Overseeing the training process and fine-tuning for efficiency.

In this role, you will also analyze model performance using tools like PowerBI and create Azure dashboards to track key metrics, including training accuracy, robustness, and tuning efficiency. You will have tangible effects on everything from the training of models to the mechanisms of release, and everything in between! Initial focus will be on language models, though the candidate should be enthusiastic about working on cutting-edge software more generally as the industry is moving forward very quickly! Candidates should demonstrate a breadth of experience in software engineering and have a scientific methodology in finding solutions to challenging questions.
