Description
We are seeking a Firmware Engineer for our Human Interface Devices (HID) team. This candidate will be deeply involved in the lifecycle of our input devices, from the very early stages of bringing up new sensors and processors to their full production realization. You will be at the forefront of debugging and resolving system issues related to your firmware, architecting, implementing, and maintaining complex designs. Your expertise will be instrumental in writing clean, easy-to-understand, robust, and sustainable code tailored for embedded systems. You will work closely with the Hardware team, helping to select microcontrollers and peripherals, defining power management strategies, and reviewing schematics. Additionally, you will collaborate effectively with Hardware and Software teams to negotiate, specify, and document communication protocols, system states, and feature requirements. Furthermore, you will partner with the Quality Engineering team to inform and shape their testing strategies, ensuring the highest quality standards are met.

  • Minimum requirement of a Bachelors Degree
  • Expertise in Embedded Systems: Solid C or C++ coding ability, experience working with microcontrollers with analog and digital sensors, and experience implementing firmware in bare-metal or RTOS environments.
  • Firmware Design and Implementation: Proven capability in applying coding best practices to firmware designs, architecting, implementing, and maintaining complex firmware designs.
  • Board Bring-up and Debug Expertise: Proven board bring-up and debug skills, along with experience in quickly debugging and effectively closing out system issues related to firmware.

  • Proven capability in building robust FW architectures
  • Working knowledge of various communication protocols including UART, SPI, I2C, Bluetooth, and USB
  • Be insatiably curious about how and why things work, with a proven track record of leading work to solve complex problems with cross-functional teams
  • Ability to communicate clearly with peers and management, coupled with strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with Hardware, Software, Quality Engineering, and Product Design teams
  • Experience with one or more 32-bit microcontroller cores (ARM, MSP430, Microchip, etc.)
  • Debugging skills with JTAG, Oscilloscopes, and/or Logic analyzers
  • Development experience on Unix, Linux, or MacOS
  • Familiarity with input technologies

  • At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $115,700 and $174,200, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
