The team: You’ll be working in a multidisciplinary Data Product team with the remit of driving the growth and expansion of Ads on Booking.com (also in collaboration with other BHI companies), whilst maintaining a great customer experience. This unit will be lead by a Data Product Manager and comprise of Data Science, Analytics, Engineering and Machine Learning crafts working together. As a Data Scientist you’ll also be part of the wider Marketplace Data Science organisation. The team works in an embedded way across a range of different Product and Strategy teams, allowing you to tap into the craft community and knowledge that you can take back to the day job with you. The role: The candidate will be mainly focused on optimising and scaling our display advertising solutions. They will be responsible for measuring the incremental impact of our advertising product and will come up with innovative new ways to generate additional ad revenue and visibility for our partners. Key Job Responsibilities and Duties Responsible for owning the design and delivery of entire Data Science solutions based on business requirements, bringing them from the initial idea-generation phase to implementation independently. Responsible for working autonomously on consuming data, preparing it for data science use, translating business problems to data stories and solving them effectively by applying suitable statistical data analysis and modeling methods. Leverages input from business stakeholders in all of the above to determine the right technical solutions to deliver customer value. Responsible for working primarily within the scope of their team to deliver work that informs business decisions for the product / business topic they currently work on, occasionally collaborating across multiple teams. Responsible for designing and interpreting quantitative experiments to objectively guide key business decision making. Responsible for independently identifying and managing stakeholders in operational, project-based, and managerial roles. Effectively communicates, addresses stakeholder needs, and conveys complex analysis results in a clear manner. Begins to guide junior colleagues in stakeholder engagement. Responsible for collaborating with peers in related crafts (ie. Data Engineering), anticipating data needs to ensure smooth progress of their individual projects. Must be knowledgeable with the operational, tactical and strategic goals of their area (ie. track / vertical) and have high level knowledge of the goals of their wider area (ie. Business Unit). Responsible for ensuring quality of their own work by validating it through peer review. Responsible for influencing business decisions within their specific area (ie. product team). Role Qualifications and Requirements 3+ years of experience working in Data Science roles; advanced degree preferred (Statistics, Econometrics, Applied Mathematics, Marketing Science, or similar) (mandatory) Strong working knowledge of statistics and experimentation (mandatory) Strong working knowledge of SQL and at least one scripting language (Python or R) (mandatory) 1+ year of experience working in Marketing or Advertising (desired) Experience using experimental and non-experimental methods to calculate the incremental return on investment of campaigns in a 2 sided marketplace (desired) Understanding of auction theory and competitive dynamics (desired) Analytical, strategic, humble, entrepreneurial, and data-driven (mandatory) Comfortable interacting with stakeholders throughout the global organization (mandatory) Strong communication and presentation skills (mandatory) Flexibility to accommodate change and thrive in ambiguity (mandatory) Benefits & Perks - Global Impact, Personal Relevance: Booking.com’s Total Rewards Philosophy is not only about compensation but also about benefits.
