About the team

At Roku, the Customer Care Engineering team is at the forefront of creating innovative solutions that redefine how we support millions of Roku users worldwide. We build and maintain a diverse ecosystem of cutting-edge tools and applications, including the Roku Support help center, advisor-facing tools for call centers, third-party partner integrations, internal web portals, and a robust suite of web services. From customer account management to big data pipelines, automated deployments, and build tools, our work touches nearly every aspect of the Roku experience.Our mission? To empower Roku customers and support teams with seamless automation, intuitive self-service tools, and powerful troubleshooting capabilities. About the role

Roku is seeking an experienced, versatile, and skilled Sr. Software Engineer to join our dynamic Customer Care platform team. You will play a pivotal role in building and evolving a platform, leveraging backend technologies and service-oriented architectures, to support world class customer care experiences including intelligent chatbots, agent dashboards, telephony integration, and self-service workflow automation. Your expertise will help build scalable architecture solutions that enhance customer support experiences and support multiple call centers globally. 

 

What you'll be doing

  • Determine the strategic and tactical direction and architecture of the customer service CRM platform
  • Architect and implement performant, scalable, reliable microservices with high availability.
  • Design, develop, and maintain backend services to support a multi-region, cloud-native platform.
  • Embrace opportunity to embark on a large, technically challenging project with many cross-functional partners that will have a large impact for our millions of users and will lay the groundwork for many years to come
  • Manage and optimize data storage solutions, both SQL and NoSQL.
  • Implement and manage pub-sub messaging solutions using tools like Kafka or Amazon SQS to support event-driven architectures.
  • Optimize service performance, ensuring low-latency and high availability.
  • Advocate for operational excellence, driving best practices in monitoring, performance, and reliability.
  • Participate in the agile development process, including scoping, technical design, effort estimation, coding, testing, debugging, code reviews, maintenance, and support.
  • Collaborate with product managers, frontend engineers, and DevOps teams to deliver end-to-end solutions.
  • Collaborate with product managers, UX designers, data science and larger engineering team on business and architecture proposals to deliver end-to-end solutions.
  • Continuously research and apply new technologies to enhance system capabilities.
  • Produce high quality code and lead a team of engineers, providing technical guidance, code reviews, and mentorship.

 

We're excited if you have

  • 7+ years of software development experience in platform or full-stack engineering with a focus on service engineering 
  • Proficiency in microservice architecture technologies (e.g., Node.js, Go, Scala) and RESTful API design
  • Expertise in object-oriented programming and solid understanding of concurrent programming and data structures 
  • Experience with data modeling and storage with SQL and NoSQL data solutions
  • Experience with scaling / performance tuning of highly available web services and systems
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure).
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools (CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Experience with micro-frontend architectures and cross-service integration.
  • Proven experience leading teams and mentoring engineers with effective communication and collaboration skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in an agile environment.
  • BS or MS degree in Computer Science or equivalent
  • Experience with event-driven architectures and message brokers (e.g., Kafka, SQS, RabbitMQ) is preferred.
  • Knowledge of distributed systems and service mesh technologies is preferred.
  • Exposure to observability tools and practices (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana) is preferred.
