Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a specialized field (e.g., Optics, Sensors, Audio/DSP, etc.), or equivalent practical experience.
  • 4 years of relevant experience in camera system or camera module engineering.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related field (e.g., Optics, Sensors, Audio/DSP).
  • Proven record in design and implementation of high volume camera module products.
  • Ability to travel overseas for hardware development and preparation for mass production.

The Starline Camera Hardware team architects, designs, develops, validates and integrates camera subsystems for Google Starline Project.

As a Hardware Engineer, you will take ownership of development and integration of high performance camera systems. As part of the Project Starline team, you will work with researchers and engineers in a changing product-oriented environment.

Project Starline from Google combines advances in hardware and software to enable friends, families and co-workers to feel together, even when they’re cities (or countries) apart. Imagine looking through a magic window, and through that window, you see another person, life-size and in three-dimensions. As part of the Project Starline team, you'll work with researchers and engineers in a fast-paced product-oriented environment. Our teams collaborate closely with Google Workspace and Research teams. Your contributions will have an impact on the future of communications with Google products. You will apply technology to solve that really important problem that we often want to be together and we can’t.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $142,000-$211,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.   • Lead Camera module design and system integration with sensor selection, lens specifications, module architecture, and trade-off studies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (system electrical, mechanical, software, product design, industrial design, test, program management, operations, finance, etc.) to deliver a successful product to market.
  • Define factory test requirements, specifications and documentation to communicate with both internal and external audiences.
  • Define and perform laboratory experience and characterization to validate quality and functionality of cameras.
  • Bring design to mass production by traveling on-site to support product manufacturing, testing, debugging and yield improvement activities.
