About the Team (Safety)
Uber's Safety & Insurance team is at the core of our business and is redefining what it takes to be safe on the roads at global scale. We are serving as a key brand differentiator for Uber and helping define the safety standards for the ridesharing industry at large. We focus on improving user trust and decreasing interpersonal incidents on the Uber platform. The team’s work touches all parts of the Uber experience from dispatch to on-trip and post-trip, as well as the Uber ecosystem ranging from UberX to Eats and self-driving.
About the Role
Safety Engagement team powers the critical user experiences pertaining to Personal Safety for the user. The team mission is to offer consumers and earners contextual, reliable and intuitive access to safety tools and information. This team owns safety features such as Safety Toolkit, Safety education and also internal platforms to power coherent safety user experience.
We are looking for a strong Engineering Manager (EM2) who has built top-notch engineering teams and solved business problems at scale. This EM2 will be building new safety features , expanding the internal platforms while also continuing to innovate to address the ever evolving global landscape of Personal Safety. They would also be managing and mentoring a strong and high-impact US based team and working cross-functionally with our stakeholders in Brazil team.

\-\-\-\- What the Candidate Will Do ----
1. Leverage best in class platforms and frameworks to deliver transformational user experiences.
2. Setting and refining the engineering vision for this team and collaborating with product management to build best in class systems
3. Building, mentoring and managing a strong and high-impact cross-geo team across the Bay Area and Sao Paulo locations.
4. Collaborating with stakeholders and our customers including Product Managers and Ops to learn local Safety needs and deliver impactful products
5. Set a strong engineering culture with a focus on quality, engineering fundamentals and architecture to scale.
6. Develop and lead through the senior engineers on the team
\-\-\-\- Basic Qualifications ----
1. Bachelors Degree, or above, in Comp Science or related field
2. 10+ years of overall experience and 5+ years of experience managing teams.
3. Experience in managing 7-10 or more engineers across different levels.
4. Experience working with product managers and other engineering teams to identify, prioritize, and solve problems
5. Experience going through the full software cycle of requirements, design, coding/testing, rollout/deploy best practices in delivering world-class software and services.
6. Strong people management skills including growing and mentoring engineers and tech leads.
7. Demonstrated capability of leading a diverse discipline team consisting of Backend, Frontend, and Mobile engineers.
8. Experience setting up teams and managing through leaders and managers.

For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$223,000 per year - USD$248,000 per year.
For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$223,000 per year - USD$248,000 per year.
For all US locations, you will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp. You will also be eligible for various benefits.
