Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world.

This is a broad scoped position providing manufacturing engineering ownership of multiple assemblies for the project Kuiper satellite program. You will be supporting new satellite assemblies early in the production ramp phase, providing critical design for manufacturability input and supporting testing of these assemblies.

As a Manufacturing Engineer for mechanical sub-assemblies, you will be directly responsible for the production process development, introduction, improvement, & maintenance of key hardware on our next generation spacecraft. You’ll be a member of a team of manufacturing engineers working on the product, solving challenging technical problems associated with ramping production.

Key job responsibilities
- Production equipment design, procurement, installation, and qualification
- Material flow planning and manufacturing process definition
- Ability to support space hardware testing, including tooling design and data analysis
- Strong understanding of Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Testability (DFT) principles to optimize production processes and test efficiency
- Experience with designing test cases for functional, performance, and stress testing in hardware systems
- Knowledge of data logging techniques and handling large data sets from test campaigns along with proficiency in processing test results including visualizations and analysis, using scripting tools or external data analysis software
- Familiarity with test equipment error logs and troubleshooting hardware and software integration problems

Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

A day in the life
Your responsibilities will include identifying and resolving assembly issues to keep builds on schedule, as well as driving efficiency improvements through tooling, automation, and design or process changes. You will collaborate closely with design, tooling, dynamics, thermal, test and electrical engineering teams to achieve these objectives.

- 30% on the shop floor, working with production teams to implement new processes, review & solve key technical blockers in production, performing production development testing, etc.
- 40% independent development work analyzing production and test data to identify and implement key production improvement actions, acting on quality escapes by developing and implementing new quality control measures, developing & executing to existing roadmaps for capacity increase, process simplification, etc.
- 30% meeting settings, collaborating with others on topics such as new design introductions, production process change management, production solution finding reviews, etc.

We are motivated by technical challenges and want individuals who are excited for the fast pace of production.- - Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, physics, material science or other related discipline, or relevant experience
- - 5+ years of experience in design and manufacturing of complex assemblies
- - 3+ years experience authoring and executing mechanical and test work instructions.
- - 5+ years experience reducing cycle time and improving labor efficiency- 3+ years of experience in spacecraft or spacecraft hardware production environment
- Experience developing, debugging, and optimizing automated test scripts for mechanical and electromechanical aerospace components
- Experience with mechanisms and mechanical assemblies, including troubleshooting and root cause analysis of testing, processing, and assembly failures
- Experience with bringing up a production facility from early product design/concept
- Experience working with Foreign Object Debris (FOD), ESD sensitive hardware, and in a clean room
- Cross-organizational communication – comfortable evangelizing ideas and concerns clearly and persuasively, in both verbal and written forms
- Successful in taking complicated build and design requirements and developing them into clear and consise build and test instructions and implementing appropriate and useful quality standards and procedures
- Commitment to rigorous testing & validation practices

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $105,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
