About the job

This position is needed to lead the Billing Engine team and build Twilio’s next generation Billing architecture.

Billing is at the heart of Twilio’s communications and data solutions business and a foundational pillar required to help scale Twilio’s growth. We are focused on launching new Billing architecture to drive radical efficiencies in the business and pave the path for launching in new markets. 

Responsibilities

In this role, you’ll:

  • Lead a group of world class Software Engineers and Managers working on the core runtime systems of Twilio Billing systems. 
  • Collaborate with Product and Engineering peers across the company to develop technical strategy for your team and long range plans to deliver for Twilio customers.
  • Raise the bar on reliability, operational efficiencies, and customer experience metrics core to Twilio Billing Experience
  • As part of Billing leadership team, influence direction, culture, and engineering standards across the whole team.
  • Independently represent Billing to other senior leaders across the company. 
  • Hire, mentor, and develop world class engineering talent and contribute to Twilio’s talent evolution

Required:

  • 12+ years of experience working on large scale distributed systems
  • Experience in leading large organizations (30+)  and leading senior ICs and managers.
  • Understanding of architectural patterns of high-scale web application (e.g., well-designed APIs, high volume data pipelines, efficient algorithms)
  • Ability to dive deep into technical details and provide guidance to the team when required.
  • Strong customer focus, taking the time to really understand their needs and ensure we are solving their problems.
  • Proven track record of delivering in a fast paced and ambiguous environment
  • Prior experience in the Billing domain with an understanding of industry trends is highly desirable.

Desired:

  • Understanding of 3P Billing products and prior experience in integrating with such products

Location

This role will be remote but is not eligible to be hired in San Francisco, CA, Oakland, CA, San Jose, CA, Los Angeles, Washington State , New York, New Jersey or the surrounding areas.

Travel

The estimated pay ranges for this role are as follows:

  • Based in Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Vermont or Washington D.C.: $223,300.00 - $279,200.00
  • Based in New York, Washington State, or California (outside of the San Francisco Bay area): $236,500.00-$295,600.00
  • Based in the San Francisco Bay area, California: $262,700.00-328,400.00
  • This role may be eligible to participate in Twilio’s equity plan and corporate bonus plan. All roles are eligible for the following benefits subject to plan requirements: health care insurance, 401(k) retirement account, paid sick time, paid personal time off, paid parental leave.

The successful candidate’s starting salary will be determined based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as skills, experience, and geographic location within the state.
