About the team

Dialpad’s Engineering Productivity team is responsible for making our own engineers more productive. This means owning tooling and automation that enhances testability, code quality, releases and reduces overhead in getting things done.

The team works with engineers across Dialpad to gather feedback around productivity bottlenecks, which forms the team’s roadmap. We’re all about learning what our engineers need rather than adding unnecessary processes or gates.

Your role

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Release Engineer to join our dynamic engineering team. This role is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of software engineering and release management. Whether you’re a Software Engineer with a passion for release management or a Release Engineer with a software engineering mindset, we want you to bring your expertise in building efficient, scalable, and reliable release pipelines.

This position reports to our Engineering Productivity Engineering Manager and will be based in our Bangalore, India Office. The position will require a hybrid working arrangement based out of our Bangalore office. We are seeking candidates who can cover US Eastern Time business hours with the flexibility to adapt to on-call rotations for urgent releases.

What you’ll do

Release Management

    • Manage weekly software releases across multiple environments, including scheduling, coordination, and execution.
    • Develop and maintain release calendars, communicating schedules to stakeholders.

Automation & Tooling

    • Build, maintain, and improve tools for release automation, environment consistency, and monitoring.
    • Automate tasks like hotfixes, multi-region deployments, release validation, and rollbacks.
    • Enhance tools for release verification, smoke tests, and environment validation.

Collaboration

    • Support SWEs during deployments, ensuring smooth rollouts of their services/applications.
    • Educate teams about release processes, best practices, and available tools.
    • Partner with on-call engineers to resolve deployment-related issues.

Post-Release Analysis

    • Collaborate with SWEs to analyze deployment issues and improve future releases.
    • Provide dashboards and metrics for release process visibility and continuous improvement.
    • Contribute to post-mortem reviews, focusing on automation and process optimization.

Skills you’ll bring 

  • Experience: 7+ years in release engineering, DevOps, or related roles.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in CI/CD pipelines and tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Spinnaker).
    • Experience in GCP or other Cloud Technologies.
    • Strong scripting skills (Python, Bash, or similar).
    • Experience with configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform) a plus.
    • Knowledge of security best practices for software delivery pipelines.
  • Collaboration Skills:
    • Strong communication skills to work effectively with SWEs, on-call engineers, and other stakeholders.
    • Create and maintain documentation for build, release, and deployment processes to ensure clear communication and knowledge sharing across teams.
    • Ability to educate and empower teams on release processes and tools.
  • Mindset:
    • Automation-first mentality, prioritizing efficiency and consistency.
    • Commitment to fostering a culture of ownership and accountability among SWEs.
