PURPOSE/REASON FOR POSITION:
To provide advanced network engineering for data centers and the cloud environments. Must have a deep understanding of routing, switching, firewalls, load balancing, virtual private networks, cloud networking and computing as well as understanding all network protocols. This position works with other members of the network engineering team as well as all other engineering teams as well as developers and customer support. They will need to have experience in managing network projects as well as leading troubleshooting when related to any network issues.
This person must collaborate with key leaders across the organization to assist in providing customers the best experience and provide reliable and stable network infrastructure. This person will be accountable for maintaining up to date knowledge on all networking systems as well as understanding the company's overall objectives and how it impacts network operations. They will need to work with other members of the network engineering team and effectively communicate with each member and other teams not as knowledgeable about network engineering.
This person will have broad technology knowledge yet be comfortable interacting on day-to-day activities with team members at all levels. This person will be expected to influence, educate and empower all levels of the organization and educate other teams on the fundamentals of networking. Wow
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Network Design and Implementation: Design, configure, and deploy scalable and secure network architectures, including LAN, WAN, Cloud, and VPN systems.
- Maintenance and Optimization: Monitor network performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement solutions to ensure optimal uptime and efficiency.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve advanced network issues, including connectivity, latency, and security problems, often escalating from lower-tier support.
- Security Management: Implement and maintain network security measures such as firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and encryption protocols to protect organizational data.
- Collaboration: Work with IT teams, vendors, and stakeholders to integrate network systems with other infrastructure and applications.
- Documentation: Create and maintain detailed network diagrams, configurations, and procedures for operational consistency and compliance.
- Mentorship: Provide guidance and technical support to junior engineers and support staff, fostering knowledge transfer and team development.
- Project Management: Lead or contribute to network-related projects, including upgrades, migrations, and new deployments, ensuring timely completion within budget.
- Compliance: Ensure network systems adhere to industry standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies.
PRINCIPAL FUNCTIONS ESSENTIAL TO THE POSITION:
- Provides support to ensure incidents, issues and problems are resolved in an expedient manner.
- Install and configure software, routers, switches, concentrators, and other network devices
- Monitor network health, performance and integrity
- Automate tasks and monitor their effectiveness
- Create, oversee and test security measures (e.g. access authentication and disaster recovery)
- Maintain and update technical documentation
- Suggest improvements to network performance, capacity and scalability
- Keeps management fully informed of all activities and problems within the areas of responsibility.
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:
- Assists in the diagnosis of people and system failures and aids in recovery.
- Assists others in management in the handling of administrative matters by conferring with and advising co-workers regarding administrative policies and procedures.
- Develop, coordinate, and implement procedures to improve productivity.
- Keeps abreast of company goals, methods, and procedures and of current developments in technology and available vendor-supplied products.

REQUIREMENTS OR SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION:
- Must possess an extensive knowledge (5+ years) of network design and architecture.
- Strong network engineering experience managing, maintaining, and troubleshooting routers and switches in IP networks. Juniper and Aruba experience strongly preferred.
- Experience with third-party telecommunications and network providers.
- Experience with AWS networking and with creating and monitoring high availability, scalable networks within AWS and using any/all AWS services.
- Strong experience with IP networking - dynamic routing, switching, monitoring, IP address management, troubleshooting
- Good working knowledge of network security tools and firewalls
- Knowledge of building automated deployment and configuration systems using infrastructure-as-code patterns.
