The Role

We're looking for a Senior Staff Software Engineer to join Block's pioneering Payment Rails team. This team sits at the intersection of Cash App and Square, building next-generation payment infrastructure that will revolutionize how money moves between consumers and merchants. You'll be part of a founding team working alongside product, engineering, compliance, and operations leaders to build a stablecoin-based payment network that aims to become a viable alternative to traditional card networks.

You Will

• Lead the technical architecture and implementation of Block's stablecoin integration strategy across Cash App and Square platforms
• Design and build scalable infrastructure to support instant, low-fee payments utilizing both stablecoins and Lightning Network
• Collaborate with compliance and legal teams to ensure all payment solutions meet regulatory requirements while maintaining Block's high security standards
• Partner with product teams to implement seamless user experiences that abstracts complexity
• Contribute to the development of Block's bitcoin-native infrastructure
• Mentor other engineers and help shape the technical direction of Block's next-generation payment rails

You Have

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, with significant exposure to payment systems and distributed systems
• Deep understanding of blockchains, particularly Bitcoin, Lightning Network, popular L1/L2 Blockchains and Stablecoin implementations
• Experience building and scaling financial products that handle real-time transactions
• Track record of leading technical initiatives that span multiple teams and stakeholders
• Excellent communication skills and ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences
