Millions of companies—from the world’s largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups—use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone’s reach while doing the most important work of your career.
About the team
As we continue to expand our product suite and global presence, we are looking for an insightful and analytical leader to be the financial and strategic partner to product teams focused on building Stripe’s growing suite of Payment products. This is an opportunity to contribute to the long-term growth potential of Stripe’s current Payment business and to help develop business and investment cases for emerging payment products. Your work will be highly visible to Stripe leadership, and will drive key insights and decisions for product teams and executive discussions. The ideal candidate is a self starter, strategic thinking, excellent communicator, and thrives in a fast paced environment.
What you’ll do
Responsibilities
- Lead strategic operating expense (opex) planning for the Payments & Risk organization including headcount planning, opex management, budgeting, forecasting, and facilitating business reviews. You will help drive alignment with business leadership and improve processes to enable growth and scale.
- Partner with senior product leaders across the organisation to understand their top priorities and help develop resource allocation strategies to hit budget targets.
- Define & help deliver headcount and opex strategies with rigorous thinking and frameworks and answer key questions business leaders are wrestling with, including product/investment prioritization, opex efficiencies, and partnerships where needed.
- Develop and monitor critical success and business performance metrics, and communicate actionable insights to relevant stakeholders (e.g., hiring progress vs. recruiting capacity, cost per headcount trends, rate and volume variance analysis).
- Provide analytical rigor and bring strategic leadership to operational initiatives (e.g., you quantify the size of an investment opportunity that would require cross-functional partnership to address, and effectively collaborate with key stakeholders).
- Improve, streamline, and optimize opex reporting and processes to ensure we’re proactively tracking the most insightful metrics.
Who you are
We’re looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.
Minimum requirements
- 10+ years of relevant experience within FP&A or strategic finance, ideally at a high-growth technology company. Investment banking, management consulting and/or private equity experience will also be considered.
- Headcount and opex management experience (including tracking non-headcount expenditures such as vendor or partnership spend)
- Exceptional analytical capabilities and business acumen, with the ability to simplify and distill complex information in a rigorous but consumable way.
- A proven ability to build strong collaborative working relationships with business partners; you are seen as a trusted and objective advisor.
- An enthusiastic “roll up your sleeves” mentality to go deep into business analysis and understand details while managing Exec-level communication.
- Adept at navigating ambiguity and thriving in unstructured, fast-paced environments
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience with SQL or a willingness to learn is a must.
