Amazon Robotics is seeking a talented and motivated Failure Analysis Co-op who is interested in joining Failure Analysis team and in learning about processes around AR hardware and apply engineering knowledge to AR hardware. The team is responsible for non-destructive and destructive failure analysis on AR products and conducting advanced material characterization for guiding design and process changes. The candidate should be able to analyze and troubleshoot the failed parts/systems using various lab equipment. You should be able to collaborate with different teams and must be determined to stretch and expand your abilities. This position reports to a senior member of the System Reliability Engineering team in Global Support and Safety (GSS) organization.

This role is a 6 month co-op to join AR full time (40 hours/week) from July - December 2025. Amazon Robotics co-op opportunities will be based in the Greater Boston Area, in our two state-of-the-art facilities in Westborough and North Reading, MA. Both campuses provide a unique opportunity for interns to have direct access to robotics testing labs and manufacturing facilities.








Key job responsibilities
Co-op Responsibilities:
* Perform hands-on root cause analysis (RCA) and in-depth failure characterizations using bench top equipment and advanced analytical tools. In addition, you will be recommending corrective actions and conveying results to the multi-functional team as well as upper management.
* Maintain RCA repository database, write failure analysis reports, and deliver presentations, for customer or internal use, that elucidate the root cause of failure and may suggest possible solutions.
* Collaborate with test engineering and design team for DOE planning and execution
* Develop failure analysis SOPs and troubleshooting procedures/guidelines
* Lab organization and detailed documentation leading to effective FA reports

- * Thorough understanding of principals, theories and concepts in mechanical engineering and ability to apply them to product design
- * Metallurgy knowledge (i.e. heat treatment, grain size, micro/macrostructure, case depth, microhardness, Rockwell hardness)
- * Understanding of the failures in sensors used in robotic automation at the material and system level.
- * Strong problem-solving and debugging experience related to hardware, software, subsystems, and firmware
- * Working understanding of bench-top instruments including oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, multi-meters, etc
- * Be able to work in a lab setting analyzing failures
- * Must have at least one semester/term/quarter of school left to complete after the end of the co-op
- * Must be eligible and available for a full-time (40h / week) 6-month co-op between July - December 2025

- * Knowledge of SolidWorks simulation or Finite Element analysis tools
- * Proven experience in root cause analysis/Failure analysis
- * Ability to read an electrical schematic and understand its function
- * Familiarity with Six Sigma methodology a plus
- * Experience with and Knowledge of Fractography and material characterization techniques such as FTIR, SEM etc. and fundamental failure analysis methodologies
- * Experience with and knowledge of a broad array of metals (carbon steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, copper alloys, aluminum alloys, etc.), and polymers
