ABOUT THIS ROLE
The JP PR & Communications lead is responsible for devising, executing and evolving the local PR and corporate communications strategy around the Audible brand and its original content. As part of the Audible Global PR organization, they will collaborate closely with the broader PR team and cross-functional partners while leveraging their institutional, local knowledge to drive groundbreaking press results in market. Their scope will include creating stellar campaigns in support of the Company’s content and projects while liaising with media, talent, talent representation, industry and other key external stakeholders. They will be responsible for agency management, artist relations relating to publicity opportunities, event planning, etc. They are a crucial brand ambassador and ultimately serve to drive listenership and subscription growth via awareness and excitement for Audible and its storytelling across all PR and communications touchpoints. Their focus will align with the Company’s overarching communications strategy and be deployed through compelling and insightful media storytelling through their expert, localized lens.

On a macro scale, the role requires an understanding of the evolving local media landscape and changing consumer appetites, superior communication and presentation skills (written and oral in both English and Japanese), and a passion for Audible’s disruptive, high-energy technology-driven culture and its innovative audio entertainment. In spearheading end-to-end campaigns independently, they will need to complete complex tasks and projects quickly, and react with appropriate urgency to situations that require a quick turnaround. They will grow and maintain a strong network of industry relationships, and deep connections with members of the press and the creative community. They must be able to work successfully in a team environment, build effective working relationships inside and outside of the organization, and possess the acumen to work through challenging and ambiguous situations. They must have the ability to pivot based on business needs without compromising quality of work or speed.

As the Associate Director, PR & Communications, Japan you will...
- Formulate and execute a high level, multi-pronged PR and corporate communications strategy for the Japanese marketplace
- Strategize and execute proactive PR announcements, launches, and narratives for new products, titles and partnerships
- Drive and achieve overarching goals set by PR leadership to generate interest in original content and the Audible brand by targeting consumer and industry audiences thus creating excitement and awareness across PR touchpoints
- Develop and maintain high-level relationships with key media across print, digital, broadcast, audio and new media through regular liaison; as well as the organization of media luncheons, desksides and other opportunities
- Independently own project campaign responsibilities, pitching earned media content with a focus on features and major appearances while proactively managing widespread media relations
- Adapt global tentpole PR strategies for local usage. Employing expertise in market, launch campaigns based on global PR strategic guidance and leverage experience and familiarity in market to create a bespoke local campaign
- Lead external agencies, driving development and expansion of innovative tactics and approaches
- Operate as an Audible communications liaison by establishing and maintaining relationships across the company to ensure every PR opportunity is maximized and successes are amplified; Inform global PR colleagues on relevant press opportunities or concepts that could create synergies and efficiencies across marketplaces
- Build strategies to ideate and activate on PR opportunities within the marketing communications space as it specifically relates to priority content campaign activations/stunts.
- Elevate and expand talent relations activities to engage with influential talent/influencers resulting in press
- Maintain strong relationships with talent and their respective talent agencies.
- Support and develop consumer and B2B presence at annual events and festivals, expanding press activities that compliment marketing and event activations.
- Monitor industry news and competitive set PR strategies to assess and up level best practices in order to deliver state of the art campaigns, meeting the zeitgeist.
- Measure success via careful accounting of earned press coverage, identify ways to continually improve KPI system
- Lead the corporate communications function at a local level to create a well-balanced and holistic external profile of Audible
- Provide crisis communications support in alignment with Audible Global Corporate Affairs.
- Provide regular reporting and analysis of activity to determine campaign performance and provide recommendations for optimization
- Manage budgets and ensure all invoices are received and processed in a timely manner.
- Collaborate with APAC PR team to support each other, share knowledge, ideas and resources to enhance efficiencies and outcomes for the region
- Live and breathe the people principles, infusing them into your day-to-day work and interactions internally and externally

- PR experience in an in-house or agency role
- Business fluency in written and verbal Japanese and English
- Network of media contacts and understanding of the evolving media landscape in Japan
- Experience of managing multiple agencies, working with them as an extension of the internal team
- Experienced in identifying a great story and have the vision to bring that story to life
- Ability to understand success metrics
