The Opportunity

We’re looking for a Privacy Counsel to play a pivotal role in ensuring compliance with global privacy laws while enabling data-driven marketing strategies and operational excellence. In this role, you will counsel cross-functional teams, develop scalable privacy processes, and support contract and privacy agreement reviews. Your expertise will help Postman navigate the evolving privacy landscape, fostering trust with customers and driving innovation.

Success in this role will be measured by your ability to ensure compliance with privacy laws, enable innovative marketing strategies, and support operational scalability while reducing legal risk.

Key Responsibilities

Privacy Compliance for Marketing and Operations

  • Provide expert guidance on privacy compliance for marketing campaigns and operations, including email campaigns, digital advertising, and data analytics.
  • Counsel marketing and sales teams on the collection, use, and sharing of customer data, ensuring compliance with GDPR, CCPA, and other global privacy laws.
  • Work with engineering and operations teams to develop and implement privacy processes and controls for marketing, sales, and product initiatives.

Emerging Privacy Regulations

  • Monitor and interpret emerging privacy regulations and provide actionable advice to internal teams.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure privacy-by-design principles are integrated into marketing tools and systems.

Contracts and Playbooks

  • Support the review of Data Processing Agreements (DPAs) and assist in developing privacy-related playbooks for marketing and operational initiatives.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with product, engineering, and security teams to integrate privacy best practices across company processes.
  • Work with the legal team to support security compliance, incident response capabilities, and business continuity planning.

Requirements

Education and Experience

  • J.D. from an accredited law school with membership in good standing with a state bar.
  • 5+ years of relevant legal experience in privacy and data protection.
  • CIPP certification is a plus.

Expertise

  • Deep knowledge of GDPR, CCPA, and other data protection regulations, with specific experience applying these laws to digital advertising and marketing operations.
  • Experience counseling on privacy-related product development and marketing initiatives.

Skills and Attributes

  • Strong legal analysis and problem-solving skills, with the ability to balance legal risks with business objectives.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to counsel cross-functional teams effectively.
  • Understanding of relevant technical information and privacy tools.
  • Proactive and collaborative mindset, with the ability to move quickly and adapt to changing priorities.

What Else?

This role is based in the San Francisco Bay Area, with a reasonably estimated salary range of $150,000 to $200,000+, plus a competitive equity package. Compensation is based on your skills, qualifications, and experience. In addition to our pay-for-performance philosophy, we offer comprehensive benefits, including full medical coverage, flexible PTO, and wellness reimbursement. Salaries will vary outside of the listed metropolitan areas & the U.S.
