We are seeking a Director - Workflow Engine / Connectors to lead the design, development, and scaling of innovative workflow orchestration platforms and third-party system connectors. This role will require driving technical excellence, shaping strategic initiatives, and mentoring engineering talent. You will oversee the development of robust, scalable workflow engines and seamless integration capabilities, enabling efficient automation and interoperability across diverse systems. The ideal candidate will possess deep technical expertise, exceptional leadership skills, and a passion for fostering innovation within high-performing teams.

Job Responsibilities:

Technical Leadership:

  • Architect and Design Solutions: Lead the design and implementation of workflow orchestration engines, ensuring scalability, fault tolerance, and high availability. Design seamless connectors for third-party applications, APIs, and databases.
  • Hands-on Coding: Contribute directly to the development of core systems, including workflow execution, task scheduling, and API integration frameworks. Perform code reviews and maintain rigorous quality standards.
  • Innovation: Explore and integrate emerging technologies to enhance workflow orchestration, including low-code/no-code platforms, event-driven architectures, and intelligent process automation.
  • Optimize Performance: Identify and resolve bottlenecks in workflow execution, scaling systems to support thousands of concurrent workflows and transactions.
  • Mentor and Develop Talent: Provide technical mentorship to engineers, fostering expertise in workflow orchestration and connector development while guiding them through complex engineering challenges.

People Management:

  • Team Leadership: Build and lead a high-performing team of engineers focused on workflow engines and connectors, cultivating a collaborative and inclusive environment.
  • Performance and Development: Conduct regular 1-on-1s, performance reviews, and provide ongoing coaching to support career growth and team success.
  • Managing: Manage a team of ten + direct reports.
  • Agile Leadership: Drive Agile practices across the team, ensuring effective planning, retrospectives, and incremental delivery of high-quality solutions.

Job Requirements:

Technical Expertise:

  • Deep understanding of workflow orchestration concepts, including task scheduling, dependency resolution, and state management
  • Expertise in developing and scaling workflow engines or orchestration frameworks (e.g., Apache Airflow, Camunda, Temporal)
  • Strong experience with designing and implementing connectors for APIs, databases, and message brokers using modern integration patterns
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or Go, with a focus on scalable system development
  • Familiarity with event-driven architectures and messaging systems (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ)
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration tools like Kubernetes and Docker
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP) for deploying and managing workflow systems

Leadership Experience:

  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering, including significant hands-on work with workflow orchestration and connector development
  • Proven success in managing and scaling high-performing engineering teams
  • Experience managing a team of ten + direct reports
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and deliver impactful solutions on time and within budget

Agile Management:

  • Strong track record of implementing Agile practices, including sprint planning, backlog prioritization, and iterative development

Communication Skills:

  • Exceptional ability to articulate complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with low-code/no-code workflow platforms and tools
  • Familiarity with BPMN standards and process modeling tools
  • Strong understanding of distributed systems and microservices architecture for workflow and connector solutions
  • Background in integrating enterprise SaaS solutions, ERP systems, or CRMs
  • Proven ability to build platforms that support multi-tenant, global-scale workflows

Salary Range:

  • The anticipated base salary range for this position is between $180,000 and $237,000. Base salary ranges may vary by geographic location and relevant experience, education, certifications, and seniority as compared to others doing substantially similar work. There is no guarantee an offer will be at the top of the posted range based on the salary analysis.
