Systems Engineer, Platform Security

Waymo's Systems Engineering team works together to blend software and hardware systems in groundbreaking new ways. We set the high performance standards that ensure our vehicles run smoothly and keep passengers safe, then design and perform the tests that validate that performance. This is a hybrid role, reporting to a Systems Engineering Manager

You will:

• Write, own and manage a set of system requirements needed to implement our high level vehicle platform security strategy, including security requirements for our OEM partners based on guidance from the Waymo security team, working with the OEMs and Functional Systems Engineers (e.g. Power, Infotainment, Thermal, Body Controls, Motion Controls) to define the network security architecture. Also including requirements for vehicle platform features which are based on security concepts (eg: Digital Key and SOTA), as well as requirements for physical tamper prevention and detection.
• Write detailed security requirements for Waymo software adjacencies to implement secure communication interfaces to the vehicle platform
• Help create Verification and Validation (V&V) plans, analyze test results for platform security across various platforms and prototype phases. You will plan, define and execute tests, analyze test data, analyze field issues, and understand and resolve defects leveraging the operations team where possible.
• Manage delivery timing of feature sets and updates to vehicle prototype fleet software and troubleshooting issues to achieve the required capability set for each vehicle

You have:

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Communications Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Computer Science, Physics or similar
• A deep knowledge of vehicle communication networks and protocols (Physical and Application layer, e.g. CAN, FlexRay, LIN, Ethernet, DBCs, etc) and an understanding of the embedded systems that control via these networks
• A thorough understanding of vehicle communications and module security technology
• The ability to create & negotiate targets and requirements with OEMs and Waymo adjacencies and create and execute effective DVPs as part of the role. A bonus will be somebody who understands the automotive development process and phases (e.g. M1, VB, TT etc.
• A thorough understanding of vehicle communications and module security technology. Including knowledge of Autosar SecOC and security relevant services in ISO14229-1 UDS.

We prefer:

• At least 3 years experience in an automotive security (or similar industry) role delivering software and/or hardware
• Thorough knowledge of CCC Digital Key
• Security best practices for automotive systems
• Writing security requirements
• Designing security features
• Ability to travel internationally 2-5 times per year
