Director of Engineering - Fulfillment & Delivery

About this Role:

After you place your order at a Toast restaurant, the work has just begun! Our Fulfillment & Delivery group builds the products that power kitchen production, packaging, and handoff across takeout, delivery, and third-party channels. Our products help restaurants quickly generate demand from many off-premise sources, including Toast’s own digital ordering suite and third-party partners like Grubhub, Uber Eats, and Doordash. Toast’s KDS (Kitchen Display System) allows kitchens to seamlessly prepare on premise and off premise orders as service heats up. By integrating kitchen operations with digital ordering, we help restaurants balance speed and accuracy, reduce errors, and adapt to real-time demand. Whether an order is picked up by a guest, a courier, or a server, our POS Orders Hub makes sure it moves smoothly from the kitchen to its final destination. The Toast Fulfillment & Delivery products ensure restaurants can fulfill every order efficiently, deliver an excellent guest experience, and maintain a healthy bottom line. 

We are adding an Engineering Director to lead the Fulfillment & Delivery mission across four R&D teams. 

Responsibilities: 

• Recruits, retains and motivates diverse, high performing teams
• Empowers, coaches, and motivates team members
• Collaborates with Engineering, PM, and UX leaders to establish strategic plans and objectives for their group
• Ensures effective achievement of team objectives
• Uses facts, data and analysis to make evidence-based and customer focused decisions
• Develops systems to measure progress, monitor risks, and identify changes needed
• Develops processes and methods that enable the broader team.

Requirements: 

• Experience delivering and evolving widely-used products
• Experience building and developing diverse, high performance teams 
• Experience deeply collaborating with PM and UX partners
• Strong technical foundation that you use to guide your team’s decisions and plans
