iOS Staff Engineer, Active Journey (f/m/x)

The Role

As a Staff iOS Engineer, you will collaborate closely with engineering teams and staff engineers across front- and backend, providing support in their technical decision-making processes. Your responsibilities will include spearheading initiatives that traverse multiple teams and domains, such as improving stability and performance and reducing complexity. You will guide the technical direction with RFCs and ADRs and set up, maintain, and drive technical improvement roadmaps across the Active Journey Alliance’s teams. You will mentor iOS engineers helping them grow.

What you’ll do 

• Create a technical vision and drive the technical improvement roadmap for iOS in the Active Journey Alliance.
• Setting the standards for quality, stability, resilience, and performance.
• Being involved in new initiatives from the beginning, to ensure that they stand on a solid technical foundation.
• Providing technical leadership and driving innovations in iOS, detailing requirements in RFCs and ADRs.
• Representing iOS within the Staff/Principal Engineering Group. 
• Mentoring and coaching engineers within the iOS community and helping them to grow.

What you’ll bring

• Ideally, 10+ years of engineering experience, including 2+ years in a staff or principal engineer capacity, with a proven ability to lead complex technical projects and mentor teams.
• Deep expertise in Swift, SwiftUI with experience designing, building, and maintaining scalable iOS applications.
• Advanced knowledge of iOS frameworks (e.g., UIKit,  SwiftUI, Combine, Core Data, Core Animation) and Apple Human Interface Guidelines, alongside proficiency in performance optimization for mobile apps.
• Strong experience in modular system architecture, reusable frameworks, and implementing clean, scalable solutions.
• Familiarity with the iOS build system, App Store processes, and CI/CD pipelines tailored for mobile development.
• Solid understanding of backend and BBFF integration, RESTful APIs, and GraphQL. Experience with backend technologies (e.g. Golang, Kotlin) is a plus.
• Hands-on experience with app telemetry, crash reporting, performance traces, and analytics tools like Firebase, Embrace, Sentry or New Relic.
• Experience writing and maintaining technical documentation, including RFCs, ADRs, and Post Mortems to align teams and drive technical direction.
• A champion of best engineering practices (BDD, DDD, clean architecture) with a passion for mentoring, knowledge sharing, and fostering a culture of quality and continuous improvement.
• Proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams (design, product, and engineering) and advocate for technical excellence while balancing short- and long-term goals. Communication skills are vital.
• Experience in development for Android platforms(Kotlin, Java) and React Native applications is a plus.

Knowing one or more of these will be a plus: React-Native, Bitrise, A/B Testing, Design Systems.
