Bringing stories in real time to 300+ million viewers around the world is a hard challenge, demanding exceptional levels of scaling, reliability, stability, and operational excellence across our Cloud Platform stack.

We are looking for an experienced Engineering Manager with a passion for tackling the complex challenges inherent in optimizing for speed and scale of Live events, to lead our Traffic Engineering & Managed Fleets team responsible for scaling the Cloud including Live Events. The team is instrumental in driving Netflix's cloud scalability and resiliency story by building robust capabilities for centralized fleetwide scaling of services. This involves managing fleet allocation on behalf of service owners, and traffic management techniques like shaping traffic in near realtime to match viewing demand across critical business domains like Live, Streaming, Games and Ads.  You would lead and grow a team of amazing engineers to evolve and implement a cohesive Cloud Scaling strategy that is critical for our growing business lines while partnering with multiple teams across Netflix.


What You will do

  • Drive the vision and strategy for evolving our Managed Fleets and Traffic Management for Cloud across multiple business domains, including Live, SVOD, Ads, Games, and more.

  • Build, scale, and mentor a cohesive team of amazing engineers.

  • Drive engineering excellence and set a high bar for operational rigor within the team.

  • Form strong cross-functional partnerships to achieve alignment with many engineering teams, ensuring our solutions meet their needs while maintaining our focus on scalability, reliability, and efficiency.

  • Balance competing priorities across multiple cross-functional stakeholders and programs

  • Drive large initiatives to completion in tandem with partner and peer organizations.

  • A self-motivated exceptional people leader with experience building and leading high-performing teams.

  • Strong understanding of cloud architectures and distributed systems with operating critical Tier0 services at scale.

  • Preferred deep expertise in cloud capacity concepts - supply and demand, fleetwide scaling, and traffic management techniques 

  • Strategic thinker with an ability to strike the right balance between short-term goals and longer-term vision

  • Customer obsession and a product mindset to understand business and customer requirements and outcomes.

  • Proven track record of timely execution with upholding engineering excellence while building trust with partners/customers.

  • Proactively give and receive feedback with a growth mindset; adept at active listening

  • Perseverance and the ability to balance competing priorities across multiple cross-functional stakeholders and programs

Our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top of market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range. The range for this role is $190,000 - $920,000.

Netflix provides comprehensive benefits including Health Plans, Mental Health support, a 401(k) Retirement Plan with employer match, Stock Option Program, Disability Programs, Health Savings and Flexible Spending Accounts, Family-forming benefits, and Life and Serious Injury Benefits. We also offer paid leave of absence programs.  Full-time hourly employees accrue 35 days annually for paid time off to be used for vacation, holidays, and sick paid time off.
