Job Description

Minimum qualifications:

  • JD, LL.B., equivalent degree, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Admitted to the bar and in good standing or otherwise authorized to practice law (e.g., have registered in-house status) in the state in which the position is located.
  • 3 years of attorney-level experience in government, in-house, or at a law firm.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 7 years of experience with a law firm and as an in-house counsel in India or overseas.
  • Experience with internet technologies and related policy-regulatory environment.
  • Ability to manage multi-stakeholder cross-functional teams on legal or non-legal related projects, with demonstrated client management skills.
  • Ability to be proactive, collaborative, and diligent, with excellent communications skills.
  • Ability to be flexible and willing to work on a broad range of matters from the routine/standard ones.

As an integrated part of the team, you proactively assess legal risks and advise on products that will not only move information into the 21st century, but move information law forward as well.

As a Regional Counsel, you will work as part of a team handling a wide range of legal matters in India. You will have an understanding of intellectual property and internet law matters, and use your experience in negotiating and drafting licensing, business, alliance and services agreements, with a interest in technology.

In addition, you will use your experience of dealing with regulatory issues relevant to the technology sector. In this role, you will advise the business on its activities in India and West Asia, including legal risks and strategies, and work with team members to roll out new products, and negotiate agreements.

  • Draft, negotiate and lead to closure a variety of commercial agreements including bespoke agreements for novels, pilot products, or projects, covering a wide range of activities.
  • Conduct legal reviews of Google’s product, marketing and business initiatives and work in consultation with Google’s government affairs representatives to provide solution-oriented practical advice to facilitate launches and innovation.
  • Advise executive management and cross-functional project teams in Asia Pacific and USA with regard to various contractual covenants and potential legal risks. Ensure compliance with applicable laws across all aspects of Google’s operations in India.
  • Respond to a wide range of legal requests from Sales, Engineering, Product Management, Marketing, Tax, Finance and other functional groups.
  • Work with external legal counsel on specific matters on expert advice requests.
