About the team

The Roku TV Technology Engineering team is responsible for the innovation, and proof of concepts of new TV features and reference designs for our next generation TVs. The team focusses on core TV technologies like Picture Quality, Display, Audio and System Architecture with the intent to create proof points and subsequently bring those to production.

 

About the role

Roku is seeking a Director of Engineering to expand and lead our TV Technology team in Hsinchu Taiwan. This position will be responsible for setting direction and executing Roku TV’s Technology strategy in the domain of Video Processing, like Picture Quality, Display and associated System Architectural Solutions. You will have a strong focus on feature vs cost leadership as well as future disruptive technologies. As a technology leader you will understand the relevant TV Technology trends, and together with Roku’s product leadership team, you will create a Technology roadmap and define the key Proof of Concept (PoC) programs to be executed in collaboration with industry partners. The intention of these PoC programs is that they will pave the way for our future products. This is a unique opportunity for a senior technology professional who enjoys a high-level of visibility, and responsibility.

 

What you will be doing

You will be responsible for expanding an engineering technology team to lead innovation, architecture, design, and prototyping for Picture, Display and System aspects of next generation Roku TV products.  

In this role, you will be working closely with industry partners, universities, ODMs and vendors to achieve this.  

You will have strong management and leadership skills, be business savvy and are a technology expert in a large set of the relevant areas required for a TV (Picture Quality, Display, System Architecture). Using your network, together with technology partners and Roku’s product management team, you will set the direction for Roku’s TV  

 

We're excited if you have

  • 15+ years of experience with having had leadership roles in TV engineering roles. 
  • Track record in leading Technology Teams with proof-points deployed in mass production. 
  • Worked in engineering roles involving several of the following: Picture Quality, Video Processing, Display Technology. Having deep skills in Audio Engineering and System Architecture will be a bonus 
  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to adjust the presentation to the target audience. 
  • Fluent in English and Mandarin languages 
  • Extensive technology partner, industry, and university network in the relevant domains 
  • Excellent understanding of the cost structure of all components of a TV and understanding of new technologies which can be beneficial to cost reduction. 
  • Track record of participating in industry conferences, and having a good understanding of display related technology trends 
  • Master’s degree in electrical engineering or similar engineering Major
