Job Summary:
The Data Center L1 Engineer provides on-site technical assistance to ensure the smooth operation of data center infrastructure. This role involves executing tasks as directed by remote engineers, performing hardware installations, troubleshooting, and maintaining documentation. The ideal candidate should have hands-on experience in data center environments, strong technical skills, and the ability to follow precise instructions.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Hardware Support & Maintenance
- Perform physical installations, replacements, and upgrades of servers, storage, networking equipment, and cables.
- Assist with racking, stacking, and cabling of devices as per provided instructions.
- Conduct power cycling, component swaps (HDDs, SSDs, RAM, NICs), and hardware diagnostics.
- Support inventory management by tracking and reporting equipment movements.
2. Troubleshooting & Incident Management
- Provide first-level troubleshooting for hardware, network, and power issues.
- Escalate complex issues to remote engineers or higher-tier support teams.
- Assist in disaster recovery and emergency maintenance activities.
3. Monitoring & Reporting
- Perform physical inspections of data center equipment (LED status checks, environmental sensors).
- Document all activities, including work logs, incident reports, and inventory changes.
- Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) for compliance and security.
4. Remote Support Coordination
- Act as the "eyes and hands" for remote teams, executing tasks via verbal/written instructions.
- Support remote administrators with BIOS updates, firmware patches, and console access setups.
5. Compliance & Safety
- Adhere to data center security protocols (access control, escorting vendors).
- Ensure compliance with ESD (electrostatic discharge) and safety guidelines.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent (technical certifications like CCNA, CompTIA A+, Network+, or DCITA are a plus).
- 4+ years in data center operations, IT support, or hardware maintenance.
- Familiarity with server hardware (Assembled & Dell, HPE), networking (patch panels, switches, routers), and cable management.
- Basic knowledge of IP networking, power distribution, and data center cooling.
- Ability to use KVM/IPMI tools and troubleshoot connectivity issues.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions meticulously.
- Excellent communication (written/verbal) and teamwork.
- Ability to work in shifts (24/7 support if required).
Physical Requirements:
- Lift/move equipment up to 30kg.
- Work in cold, noisy data center environments.
- Traveling to data centers to attend physical operations
Preferred Qualifications/Knowledge:
- Experience with ticketing systems ( Jira, Confluence).
- Experience with DCIM tools (like Netbox)
- Knowledge of HFT Colocation data center environments .
