Job Description

The Tower Technician is responsible for the construction, installation, and maintenance of our wireless infrastructure. This role is crucial in supporting the Field Engineers by ensuring the physical components of our wireless networks are built and maintained to the highest standards of safety and performance. The ideal candidate will have a strong attention to detail, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

What You’ll Do:

  • Promptly respond to network outages to assist with troubleshooting, repairing, and resolving network issues in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Support the installation and maintenance of antennas, cables, and other wireless communication equipment on towers and rooftops.
  • Competently climb and work on various communication structures, ensuring all work is performed in accordance with company standards.
  • Safely operate tools and equipment necessary for the installation and maintenance of communication infrastructure, including hand tools, power tools, and rigging equipment.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and repairing issues with wireless communication equipment under the guidance of Field Engineers. Identify and report any potential issues to the supervising engineer.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, including daily reports, maintenance logs, and inventory tracking.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and compliance with OSHA regulations and company policy.
  • Travel to various sites within the regional market as required. Occasional longer stays and out-of-market travel may be necessary depending on project needs.
  • Work closely with Engineers to ensure that all installations and repairs are completed to the required standards. Provide support in testing and troubleshooting activities as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned or needed.

 

Job Requirements:

  • Previously completed an Authorized Climber/Rescue course and received the course certificate.
  • Minimum 2 years of tower climbing experience required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training in telecommunications or related field is a plus.
  • Ability to follow instructions accurately and efficiently, while collaborating effectively with team members to achieve shared goals.
  • Willingness to be outside at heights and in various weather conditions all year round.
  • Ability to rig a tower in a Class II rigging scenario
  • Basic knowledge of wireless communication systems and components.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with team members.
  • Basic knowledge of direct current (DC) and alternating current (AC) power systems, including basic principles of wiring, power distribution, and safety protocols.
  • Willingness to travel extensively, including overnight stays.
  • Ability to annually pass DOT physical.
  • Must be at least 21 years old, have a valid driver’s license, and a clean driving record to operate a company vehicle

Preferred:

  • Previous experience in a similar role in the telecommunications industry.
  • Knowledge of fiber splicing, coaxial cable installation, and basic networking principles.
  • Thorough understanding of industry standards and best practices for equipment installation.
  • OSHA 10 certification is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to competently climb all types of structures and towers up to 600 feet if required; Majority of towers climbed are between 150-400 feet.
  • Ability to work overtime, evenings, and on call required. Occasional weekend work is required as needed or as part of on-call.
  • Ability to work outside or inside in hot and cold weather conditions for long periods of time.
  • Long haul driving of commercial motor vehicles, sometimes up to 10 hours in a work shift; majority of driving is between 1- 4 hours.
  • Required to be on feet/standing in one place 60% to 100% of the work shift.
  • Required to lift/carry equipment and tools as follows:
    • Over 150 lbs. – 1% of the time
    • 75 – 150 lbs. – 5% of the time
    • 25 to 75 lbs. – 50% of the time
    • 1 to 25 lbs. – 90% of the time

Travel Requirements:

  • Must be willing to travel up to 70-100% of the time within the regional market. Occasional out-of-region travel may be required.

Please note that TowerPros operates commercial motor vehicles as a private carrier registered with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (the “FMCSA”), and the ability to drive TowerPros’ commercial motor vehicles is an essential function of this position. In order to comply with federal regulations, any candidate for this position will be required to meet all driver qualification requirements mandated by the FMCSA for non-CDL drivers of commercial motor vehicles and, as such, any offer for this position will be contingent upon TowerPros’ receipt of satisfactory driving records, background check results, drug screening results, and DOT physical results. As such, any candidates will be expected to sign necessary consent forms and provide information necessary to accomplish the foregoing, all in accordance with applicable law.

Hourly Pay Range
$26$30 USD
