Lyft is looking for an experienced Head of Federal Policy to lead our US Federal Policy team based in Washington DC. This individual will lead, develop and implement advocacy strategies on declared federal government advocacy priorities across Lyft’s policy priorities on technology, transportation and worker classification issues. This leader will help to get riders out into the world so they can live their lives together, and provide drivers a way to work that gives them control over their time and money.

This position will be based in Washington DC, and require some travel and evening availability. This leader will report  to Lyft’s Chief Policy Officer. 

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop Lyft’s Federal Policy team, responsible for federal policy and advocacy
  • Develop and execute Lyft’s engagement strategies with federal legislators, agency staff, and administration officials to advance worker classification, autonomous vehicle, and other public policy priorities
  • Provide senior leadership  with guidance and analysis on key policy issues to enable informed business decisions
  • Manage relevant trade associations, third party stakeholders, and relevant coalitions to advance Lyft’s policy priorities
  • Track and respond to congressional inquiries and administration requests 
  • Represent Lyft in political activities, promoting the company’s interests and priorities
  • Manage federal consultants to improve advocacy strategy, messaging, reach, and impact
  • Draft memos for executive leadership and staff the CEO, Chief Policy Officer, and other company C-suite executives to meet with federal stakeholders 

Experience:

  • 10+ years of federal government or federal government affairs experience in Washington, including meaningful congressional experience
  • Track record of effective people leadership, team management, and government relations impact
  • Established relationships on Capitol Hill, including with key members from both political parties and within key committees of jurisdiction: Transportation and Infrastructure, Commerce, Education & the Workforce, HELP, Ways & Means, Finance, Veterans Affairs, and Appropriations
  • Knowledge of the federal legislative and regulatory process 
  • Superior organizational skills and track record of cross-functional callaboration 
  • Natural connector and relationship builder 
  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation)
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Law or Masters degree preferred 
  • Private sector tech or transportation industry experience preferred

This role will be in-office on a hybrid schedule — Team Members will be expected to work in the office 3 days per week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Additionally, hybrid roles have the flexibility to work from anywhere for up to 4 weeks per year. #Hybrid

The expected base pay range for this position in the Washington DC area is $203,000 - $253,750. Salary ranges are dependent on a variety of factors, including qualifications, experience and geographic location. Range is not inclusive of potential equity offering, bonus or benefits.
