Working Student - Security Engineer (f/m/d)

About the Opportunity

Contentful is dedicated to building a secure and safe service, and we invest heavily in security. Our Security team drives corporate-wide information security management programs, collaborating closely with internal teams. We champion a DevOps-driven security approach with robust, repeatable processes.

We are seeking a motivated Working Student Security Engineer eager to gain practical experience in operational security tasks. You will primarily support our senior team by handling operational tickets, such as third party vendor reviews, completing security questionnaires for prospective customers, and aiding in corporate risk reviews. This role offers the opportunity to explore other security domains as you progress, but your initial focus will be on ensuring smooth operations.

This is a part-time role designed to fit around your studies, with the potential for increased responsibility as you develop. We are looking for someone detail-oriented, with a strong desire to learn, and who can work effectively in our distributed team.

What to expect? 

• Operational Security Support: Conduct vendor security reviews, assist with security questionnaires, and collaborate on purchasing and risk review workflows.
• Risk Reviews: Gain hands-on experience evaluating and documenting corporate and software-as-a-service related risks.
• Ticket Management: Learn ticket prioritization approaches and help the team manage and address a range of security inquiries.
• Learning & Growth: Pair with senior security personnel to learn new skills and technologies to gradually take on more complex security tasks like alert investigation and security tooling configuration.
• Documentation & Improvement: Create and maintain documentation, processes, and runbooks for team efficiency.
• Distributed Collaboration: Work with team members across various locations.

What you need to be successful

• Security Fundamentals: Basic understanding of Information Security concepts and frameworks.
• Learning Attitude: Eagerness to expand your skillset and embrace new challenges.
• Analytical Skills: Strong attention to detail and ability to analyze information from vendors and questionnaires.
• Technical Aptitude: Basic understanding of Computer Science fundamentals, including operating systems (macOS, Windows, Linux), networking concepts, and SaaS platforms.
• Team Player: Ability to collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders.
• Communication Skills: Clear and concise articulation of findings and questions.
• Proactive Mindset: Motivation to improve operational processes and documentation.
