Are you interested in driving solutions that increases speed, reduces cost and ultimately delights our customers? Amazon Japan seeks a Business Intelligence Engineer to join Solution Engineering (SOLE) under Japan Customer Fulfillment Solutions (JCFS) based in Tokyo, Japan.
This role is highly technical as well as analytical and requires an individual with excellent analytical and statistical skills and deep knowledge of business intelligence solutions. You will be surrounded by people who have passion for data analytics, be a self-starter comfortable with ambiguity, have strong attention to detail, have an ability to work in a fast-paced and entrepreneurial environment, and have a desire to innovate Amazon’s approaches.
Key job responsibilities
• Engage with JCFS project owners (PM & engineers) and leadership to understand the needs and recommend business intelligence solutions (descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive).
• Own the design, implementation, and maintenance of scalable solutions for ongoing metrics, reports, analyses, and dashboards, etc. to support analytical and business needs.
• Partner with global technology teams to define, extract, transform, and load data from many sources using SQL and other tools.
• Build and analyze key metrics to uncover trends and root causes of issues and/or find opportunities for contentious improvements.
• Conduct deep dive analyses of business problems and data issues and formulate conclusions and recommendations for leadership and technical teams.
• Localize new technologies which are not yet available in Japan by deeply understanding Amazon's operating systems and engaging closely with ML scientists, BIEs, PMs based in the US and India.
• Develop mechanism to enrich customer's experiences, optimize operating processes and reduce cost at a large scale by capitalizing on big data and machine learning techniques.
A day in the life
You will dedicate 60~70% of your time to assigned projects and remaining 30~40% to Ad Hoc data/analysis requests from internal customers. You will sync up with your BIML team members and project stakeholders on a weekly basis. Lastly, you will have a weekly 101 with your manager to align resource allocation and seek their feedback or advice on your daily works. The team also holds an offsite meeting every quarter to discuss team's growth strategy and enhance collaboration within the team.

The Solution Engineering (SOLE) department drives the development and implementation of technologies and services across multiple fields including Hardware, Software, Processes, and Packaging Materials, supporting Amazon Japan in maintaining its position at the industry's forefront.- 3+ years of analyzing and interpreting data with Redshift, Oracle, NoSQL etc. experience
- Experience with data visualization using Tableau, Quicksight, or similar tools
- Experience with data modeling, warehousing and building ETL pipelines
- Experience in Statistical Analysis packages such as R, SAS and Matlab
- Experience using SQL to pull data from a database or data warehouse and scripting experience (Python) to process data for modeling- Experience with AWS solutions such as EC2, DynamoDB, S3, and Redshift
- Experience in data mining, ETL, etc. and using databases in a business environment with large-scale, complex datasets
