Celonis Garage operates as an independent research and development unit within Celonis, dedicated to pioneering new business models, exploring emerging technologies, and developing prototypes that enhance the Celonis platform. Our team drives customer co-innovations, scales breakthrough solutions, and pushes the boundaries of process intelligence. We are looking for a (Senior) Data Engineer to join our innovative and fast-paced team at Celonis Garage

The Role:

We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join our dynamic Data & Analytics team specialized in enterprise business process optimization. In this role, you will be responsible for designing,
developing, and maintaining scalable data pipelines and architectures that support advanced data analytics, AI-driven insights, and automation. Your work will enable deep business process insights, helping identify inefficiencies, enhance decision-making, optimization opportunities and drive automation.

The work you’ll do:

  • Design, develop, and maintain robust, scalable data pipelines for real-time and batch data processing.
  • Build and optimize data architectures to support business process analytics, predictive  modeling, and automation.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, process mining analysts, AI engineers, and business stakeholders to understand data requirements and ensure accurate event log extraction.
  • Develop and maintain data models, data warehouses, and data lakes optimized for business process use cases.
  • Ensure data quality, integrity, and security across structured and unstructured data sources.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot data pipeline performance, ensuring high availability and reliability.
  • Implement best practices for data governance, ensuring compliance with data privacy and regulatory standards.
  • Document data workflows, architectures, and transformations for transparency and maintainability.
  • Integrate AI/Gen AI-based solutions to proactively mitigate inefficiencies, enable predictive analytics, and automate tasks

The qualifications you need:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field (Master’s preferred).

Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in data engineering, data pipelines and big data processing.
  • Strong proficiency in Python for data extraction, transformation, and analysis.
  • Expertise in SQL for data processing and query optimization.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) and their data services.
  • Familiarity with stream processing frameworks (Spark preferred, Kafka, Flink, or equivalent).
  • Experience with data extraction from enterprise systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Salesforce).
  • Strong understanding of data warehousing, ETL frameworks, and big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark, Snowflake).
  • Knowledge of data governance, privacy, and compliance best practices.
  • Exposure to Generative AI (Gen AI) tools and their integration into data workflows.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with process mining tools (e.g., Celonis, UiPath Process Mining, Minit, Signavio Process Intelligence) is a plus, but not required.
  • Familiarity with event log extraction from ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and other enterprise systems.
  • Understanding of process modeling and BPMN (Business Process Model and Notation).
  • Exposure to machine learning models for predictive process analytics.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, version control systems (Git), and containerization tools (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Knowledge of performance tuning techniques for large-scale data processing.

Skills:

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills focused on process optimization.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities to work with both technical and  business stakeholders.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, agile environment.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to delivering high-quality, accurate process data insights.
