Job Description

Hybrid

From Fivetran’s founding until now, our mission has remained the same: to make access to data as simple and reliable as electricity. With Fivetran, customer data arrives in their warehouses, canonical and ready to query, with no engineering or maintenance required. We’re proud that more organizations continue to leverage our technology every day to become truly data-driven.

About the Role

Fivetran is building data pipelines to power the modern data stack for thousands of companies.

As the Technical Revenue Accounting Lead, you will lead technical revenue accounting initiatives, including ASC 606 compliance, complex contract reviews, and new product/pricing assessments. This role requires someone who can not only deliver robust technical conclusions but also understand the operational impact on our order-to-cash (OTC) processes.

You will collaborate closely with the Revenue Accounting team and cross-functional partners, translating technical policies into scalable solutions that integrate smoothly into our financial systems.

This is a full-time, hybrid position based out of our Oakland, CA or Denver, CO offices. Our hybrid work model offers a blend of remote flexibility and in-person collaboration, including two days in the office each week to connect and build as a team.

Technologies You’ll Use

Netsuite, Salesforce, Ironclad, BigQuery

What You’ll Do

Technical Revenue Accounting:

  • Lead the evaluation of non-standard customer contracts, including those with complex elements like combined SaaS/on-premise offerings and multi-element arrangements, ensuring full ASC 606 compliance.
  • Evaluate the revenue impact of new pricing models and product launches, advising on appropriate revenue treatment.
  • Own and maintain the company’s ASC 606 policy, updating it as new products, pricing models, and contract structures are introduced.
  • Conduct SSP analyses and allocations, particularly for bundled offerings combining SaaS and on-premise software, using historical usage data and pricing analyses.

Operational Integration & Order-to-Cash (OTC):

  • Partner with Revenue Accounting Operations, Order Management, and AR teams to ensure technical conclusions are accurately reflected in billing, invoicing, and collections workflows.
  • Identify gaps between technical policies and operational processes, proposing scalable solutions to ensure compliance without introducing unnecessary complexity.
  • Support upcoming OTC architecture reviews, contributing insights into how revenue recognition systems (e.g., NetSuite ARM, Salesforce) can be optimized to support technical policies.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Act as a key liaison between Revenue Accounting and cross-functional teams, including Sales, Deal Desk, Legal, and Product, providing guidance on revenue recognition impacts for new deals and offerings.
  • Participate in contract reviews to flag and resolve revenue recognition issues early in the sales cycle.
  • Partner with Legal and Deal Desk to streamline non-standard contract reviews, balancing technical compliance with business objectives.
  • Support internal and external audits, including preparation of audit schedules and responses to technical accounting inquiries.

Skills We’re Looking For

  • 8+ years of relevant experience, with a strong focus on technical revenue accounting under ASC 606; CPA required.
  • Experience in SaaS or technology companies, ideally with exposure to combined SaaS/on-premise offerings.
  • Deep understanding of order-to-cash (OTC) processes and how technical accounting decisions impact operations.
  • Experience with revenue recognition and OTC systems (e.g., NetSuite ARM, Salesforce, Ironclad) or equivalent tools.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distill complex technical issues into clear, actionable guidance.
  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally and balance technical rigor with operational practicality.

Bonus Skills

  • Big 4 (or equivalent) public accounting experience in audit or advisory services.
  • Hands-on experience developing & applying SSP allocation methodologies, particularly for multi-element arrangements.
  • Exposure to non-GAAP policy development and the ability to balance operational ease with technical compliance.
  • Familiarity with SaaS revenue models, including prepaid subscriptions, usage-based pricing, and bundled offerings.
