Work hard, have fun and make history with Amazon Public Policy. The Manager, Public Policy, will work with internal and external business partners to help to organize and lead high-profile public policy initiatives with a focus on educating policymakers about Amazon and our third-party sellers.
The Manager, Public Policy, will be a highly visible position that will create, execute, and manage responses to key public policy issues. The Manager will work with and organize supporters and allies to drive policy campaigns, and develop resources to help partners engage with the public policy environment in Washington DC and in state capitols. He/she will also drive our external engagement efforts by communicating with trade associations, think tanks, non-profits, and other key external partners. The Manager will lead and coordinate external advocacy efforts, partner outreach programs, and key initiatives with elected officials and the media.
The preferred locations are Arlington, VA or Washington, DC.
- BS/BA required.
- A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience with a keen working understanding of public policy and public affairs, including the mechanics of legislative and administrative policymaking process and procedures, working with coalitions, effective grassroots techniques, and collaboration with other companies and trade groups. Candidates will be able to demonstrate their experience through work within government, companies, consultancies (public policy or communications), trade associations, or equivalent organizations.
- Fluent in both Spanish and English.
- An ability and desire to travel is required.
- Previous public policy or communications experience, with a focus on understanding political and media dynamics.
- Experience with building and managing coalitions.
- Experience with running policy campaigns.
- Familiarity with economic and business issues.
- Experience producing work product for stakeholders across the political spectrum.
- Demonstrated ability to create resources to support public policy positions using in-depth research techniques and innovative thinking.
- Ability to influence, negotiate with, and persuade others – with strong interpersonal skills, judgement, and political acumen.
- Ability to effectively communicate complex information to a wide variety of audiences, both written and oral; and a demonstrated ability to effectively and comfortably interact at the highest corporate and political levels.
