Amazon Robotics is seeking a talented, collaborative, and motivated Control Systems Engineer to design safety-relevant controls for robotics systems and industrial equipment. This candidate should be motivated to adapt well-tried design and safety principles and industrial safety standards into a new and emerging industry. The ideal candidate would have demonstrated experience developing to IEC standards for delivering in automation or robotics, and possess excellent communication skills. This position reports directly to the Manager of Control Systems.
Key job responsibilities
- Designing controls for robotics and industrial automation equipment.
- Applying IEC industrial standards for the development lifecycle of an electrical control system, and coaching and supporting developers on processes to apply during this phase.
- Writing or reviewing safety requirement specifications, safety management plans, and verification and validation plans.
- Writing or reviewing functional specifications, design verification plans and test procedures
- Analyzing failure modes of control circuits, the effect of the failure, and identifying mitigations and diagnostics
- Driving projects to closure; ensuring that systems deployed, maintained, and meet regulatory requirements for certification
- Ensuring systems comply to machinery safety standards (IEC 60204 and/or IEC 62061)

- 1+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Knowledge of systems engineering fundamentals (networking, storage, operating systems)
- Experience programming with at least one modern language such as C++, C#, Java, Python, Golang, PowerShell, Ruby
- BS / MS Electrical Engineering (or similar field)
- 6 years of experience in electrical control systems
- Demonstrated experience with IEC standards for electrical controls for robotics
- Demonstrated experience with Functional Safety standards
- Experience with PLCs or microcontrollers
- Demonstrable skills in developing testable applications
- Solid debugging skills and the ability to diagnose and solve difficult problems
- Commitment to rigorous testing practices and design process flows
- Desire to work in a fast-paced environment
- Desire to develop deep understanding of the business and end user needs
- Ability to resolve complex issues in creative, efficient, and effective ways
- Excellent written and oral communication skills- Experience with PowerShell (preferred), Python, Ruby, or Java
- 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
