The Amazon Fulfillment Technologies team in Bellevue, WA is looking for a System Development Manager to manage all aspects of mission-critical services. Our team of engineers innovate, automate, drive process and service improvements and manage highly available systems that power Amazon fulfillment network worldwide.
A successful candidate for this role will have an established background in managing support organization, has a strong customer focus, excellent project management skills, great communication skills, and a motivation to achieve results in a fast paced environment. This manager will collaborate with business teams, program/project management teams, and software engineering teams to help articulate amazon fulfillment strategy to achieve Operational Excellence and scale our business. The role also involves driving smaller scope development projects and building custom tools.

Key Responsibilities:
- Lead a team of highly talented Dev Ops & Sys Dev engineers responsible for managing all aspects of mission-critical systems.
- Lead and manage the team that drives organizational standards for operational excellence and resiliency
- Establish strong relationships with internal partners and peer stakeholders to understand and meet their needs while operating existing systems at a high quality
- Participate in incident management to resolve outages and communicate with a global audience and participate in calls resolving outage.
- Develop and maintain a culture of innovation and operational efficiency in the team.
- Manage the design and development of new software solutions supporting our internal teams, including code reviews, testing, deployment and post-launch monitoring
- Hiring, growing and retaining engineering team keeping up with the high Amazon bar. This leader will be responsible for continuing to build an extremely high caliber team.
- A successful candidate will be a hands-on manager with an established background in developing and operating platforms and services, developing and hiring extraordinary talent, have strong technical ability, great communication skills, and a motivation to achieve results in a dynamic fast paced environment.

Platform Engineering and Services
AFT’s Platform Engineering & Services team leverages data, process improvement, and innovative technologies to provide comprehensive engineering excellence services/solutions across AFT’s product portfolios.- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field, or five or more years of work experience in System development as an equivalent.
- 5 or more years of people management experience leading System development teams.
- Proficiency in one or more general-purpose programming languages such as Java, C/C++, C#, Objective C, Python, JavaScript, Ruby, and Go.
- Experience designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed systems or web services.
- Experience in managing large scale infrastructure and automation
- Experience engaging and influencing senior executives using both verbal and written communication tools- 4+ years of hands-on work managing complex technology projects experience.
- Experience managing projects across cross functional teams, building sustainable processes and coordinating release schedules

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $149,700/year in our lowest geographic market up to $258,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
