About This Role

Strava is the app for active people. With over 135 million athletes in more than 190 countries, it’s more than tracking workouts—it’s where connection, motivation, and personal bests thrive. No matter your activity, gear, or goals, Strava’s got you covered. Find your crew, crush your milestones, and keep moving forward. Start your journey with Strava today and Join the Strava Club.

This role is on the Core Services Platform team, a team responsible for the underlying services that power goal setting, progress tracking and discovering new locations to be active. This team partners closely with product development teams across the company, enabling and discovering the features that will be on the roadmap: either immediately or long into the future. We apply a product-forward mindset to complicated discovery work. Together we create the most engaging ways that athletes can interact with their data – then inform where they could go next.

This role will be based in our San Francisco office with a hybrid in-office work requirement of at least 3 days per week.

You’re excited about this opportunity because you will:

  • Collaborate with fellow engineers, analysts and product managers to deliver experiences that will enable their athletic goals and discover where their next activities could be.
  • Demonstrate commitment to innovation and providing capabilities, unlocking new opportunities for the products of the future.
  • Take ownership of the systems we interact with by improving reliability, performance and cost opportunities along the way.

You will be successful here by:

  • Demonstrating empathy for athletes and their experience while using Strava
  • Own your work and partner with cross-functional peers to ensure services are adequately scoped and implemented.
  • Contributing to an inclusive and collaborative team culture.
  • Be willing to explore and learn new technologies outside of your comfort zone.

We’re excited about you because:

  • Have built services in a production environment, using languages like (but not limited to) Ruby, Java, Scala, Python, Go, etc.
  • Have experience with relational or NoSQL databases in production (we use MySQL, Redis, and Cassandra)
  • Have experience with open-source distributed systems technologies (we use Kafka, Finagle, Kubernetes, and Docker)
  • Have experience working with Elasticsearch and GraphQL
